XP - window resizing - problem solved

This fixed my window sizing problem, although I still have to "OK" thru half
a dozen warning messages. That's still a pretty good trade to be able to
see the entire width of the report....

XP has a new setting: dpi

By default the XP setting for dpi is 96. Acer changed the dpi in its setup
script. After we put it back to 96 and rebooted the laptops Vantage workd
fine.

We think it is maybe the videocard of these new laptops. We try to find the
latest drivers. If we find the cause we get you updated.

Been using Vantage 5.2 on Windows XP(5.1) since November, no problems with
displays. I'm using Windows XP style, normal font size, 1024 x 768 pixels on
a laptop flat panel, 96DPI.

Configuration:
Vantage 5.2

I have one Windows XP workstation with SP1 installed. When the user goes
to load Job Tracker, BOM Tracker or Engineering Workbench, - it takes a
matter of minutes for the screen to come up. I'm not sure if this is a
problem with SP1. Has anybody else experienced this?

To be honest with you I think I picked it up from google when hubby was
whining about performance on the network at home. I found a site that
details what services you can turn off to improve performance. That one
seemed to have the biggest performance bang. Ill see if I still have the
url on my system at home.

IÂ’ve been having the same problem with my home W98 box. While IÂ’m online,
it runs fine for 5 or 6 minutes, then hangs for about a minute showing no
sign of internet activity. Then it unlocks and goes along ok for another 5

Thanks, I had turned off several before head hunting for performance issues
such as Wireless Zero Configuration, Automatic Updates, Fax, etc... All will
no impact. But stopping the task scheduler seemed to help. I will continue
to monitor the issue.

Check for unused network adapters with DHCP enabled. Remove the driver for
it, or give it a private network / non-routeable IP address, like 10.x.x.x

You might check your system for a Trojan, hubby was having a
performance problem and I discovered a very tricky one on his system the
other day. Especially if you are using any file sharing services I ve
heard rumors that media companies are starting to send out viri on files to
combat file sharing. (I would consider such an act despicable if true,
Lets pour MORE sewage into the data stream)

I also disabled task scheduler with no luck. The system is also clean of
all viri and other 'infections'.

Does anybody else in particular run Windows XP with SP1? I guess I'd like
to rule the service pack out as the source of the problem.

You might check your system for a Trojan, hubby was having a
performance problem and I discovered a very tricky one on his system the
other day. Especially if you are using any file sharing services I ve
heard rumors that media companies are starting to send out viri on files to
combat file sharing. (I would consider such an act despicable if true,
Lets pour MORE sewage into the data stream)

To be honest with you I think I picked it up from google when hubby was
whining about performance on the network at home. I found a site that
details what services you can turn off to improve performance. That one
seemed to have the biggest performance bang. Ill see if I still have the

Also try turning off your Symantec file system real time protection or other
Vendor Equivalent.

all viri and other 'infections'.

Does anybody else in particular run Windows XP with SP1? I guess I'd like
to rule the service pack out as the source of the problem.

We have installed a Vantage (5.20) client on a windows XP professional
workstation. And all screens that can be resized like print preview,
engineering worbench etc. produce all kinds of error messages about widgets
out of scope of a window.

Does anyone else encountered the same problem? I have the same problem with
vantage 5.10 and 6.00 on Windows XP. Workstations with Windows 2000 have no
problems.

We've had messages similar to these ones on some of our 98 clients. The
problem we had was to do with the resolution that the display was set
at. I can't remember the exact details of what we had to do but I know
the screen resolution was the main cause. Hopefully this will give you
something else to look at.

I recently encountered this while in Singapore (while dodging SARS). If you change your Windows display theme from WindowsXP to Windows classic the problem will be resolved.

We tried the suggestions from the vantage-yahoogroup:

- changing display theme fromWindowsXP to Windows Classic
- not using large fonts
- changing resolution from 1400x1050 to 1280x768

all three the suggestion individually and combined did not solve the
problem.

I have to mention that we use 15inch (1400x1050 pixels) laptop screens.
Laptop screen resolutions should use the factory standards in our case
1400x1050 otherwise you get a fuzzy screen.

So, any other suggestion is welcome.
