*RESOLVED* Zebra Label Printer: Version 905.607A

I finally got back to testing this one and am happy to report our labels are printing fine. We print these labels on older Zebra models (105SL, 110Xi) so our fix may not work for others. We are using the following:

Crystal 2008 SP4 viewer on the client
Seagate Scientific Drivers for Windows 7

Crystal 2008 Developer version 12.4.0966 (I believe this is SP4 as well)
No Printer checked
Disassociated formatting page & printer paper sizes
User Defined Size = 3" x 2"; landscape

Jenn
Hoping someone can point me in the right direction: We have a zebra label printer that is setup as a network printer to print labels that are 3X5. On two of the test computers it prints the labels accurately, however, on my other 2 test printers it wants to shrink the font even though I have the same settings on these 2 computers as the other 2 (from what I can tell). Any thoughts on what I can do to have these labels print out as they should?

We use zebra printers and have a lot of trouble on 64Bit machines and have to use NiceDrives as a replacement.

Also make sure your label size is setup in both the Printing Preferences and under the Advanced tab Defaults.

You may want to open the label in Crystal Reports, go to FILE –> Page Setup –> and check the box in Printer Options called “No Printer (optimize for screen display)”

Also, ensure all computers that you’re testing from have the Zebra printer as their default Windows printer.

See if that does anything.

You can get this if the dpi of the printer doesn’t match the dpi of the driver 203 or 300

In my Zebra share Tab I have a checkbox for Render print job on the client computer. If you have and turn it off, then the server would render the image.

If the font doesn’t exist on the client, then it could substitute another.

Dustin,
I'm in the same boat except I can't get it to print correctly on any system... and most of the time the labels are rotated. These are the same labels that have been printing great in V8 with CR-XI R2.

The tech tips I had were:

* Uncheck the disassociate from printer, save, recheck it, save and then it should work. It didn't.

* I also tried the tricks of adjusting the paper size larger than the labels and all it did was hold the orientation and shrink the print (sounds like what you're seeing).

* The last tip I saw was to apply SP4. My Crystal Reports 2008 is up-to-date when I check for updates so I must be on the latest. The 2008 viewer we have doesn't have a version, so I was assuming the tip referred to the developer's full Crystal version having SP4.

If you, or anyone else, figures this out please share!

Thanks!
Jenn

We have used the seagull scientific drivers for our zebra printer and haven't had any issues.

In V8 there is a switch you can add to the Startup Icon.
I'm not sure if if still works in E9.
Might be worth a try...

/RPT

The program will load the Crystal Report Definition and use its Printer Settings for the Printer Dialog.
If it cannot find a matching printer, it will default to Client Desktop Printer.
(This value is available in V8.03.404 and higher.)

P.S.
I had trouble with Zebra printers in 8.03.305.
None of the suggested solutions worked in that version.
It was only fixed when I applied the 8.03.409 patch.
Hopefully you don't have a version specific issue.

Are the labels wider than the are tall? We're having trouble with our labels too and they're 2.25 wide x 1.25 tall.

I started to play with the seagull drivers and it kinda helped. I'm actually looking into running the newer CR2008 runtimes. I did that on a test computer and it seemed to fix the issue completely, but I need to do some additional testing to know for sure.

Jason,
I am using the seagull drivers too. I'm curious what CR2008 runtime you upgraded to and where you got it. Is it the client CR2008 viewer that you're upgrading or the developer full CR2008? My CR2008 developer version is at SP4 (latest patch). The client viewers are at SP3.
Jenn

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
I used the CR2008 SP4 runtimes downloaded directly from SAP. I did just download SP5 the other day, but for the life of me I can't seem to find a link again. If I find it again, I'll let you know, but I know it's somewhere behind their login...

SP3 is the one listed and "supported" by Epicor, but I know of a few people that are running SP4 runtimes. I'm supposed to get back into dealing with reports soon so I'm going to test with SP5.

I just heard from a reliable technical resource not to use SP5 runtimes because it is buggy with Epicor 9. I would stick with SP4 for now.

FWIW we run SP5 with 9 all over the place without issue.

I'd love to get more info on what specifically is buggy w/ CR2008 SP5 runtimes and epicor.

Did the tech you talked w/ have anything positive to say about SP4?

So this is what Dustin got from being on the phone with support:
"Was working with Epicor this morning once again, their final explanation was that there is a limitation within Crystal that doesn’t allow you to print to a zebra label printer." Seriously ??
Â
Obviously since a lot of you are running with Zebra printers, this is absolutely ridiculous. Nothing on the responses yet has seemed to make a difference.
Â
Here is a little other nugget though that may jar something for some of you:
We can print one of our versions of labels off of Dustin's computer and one in the Shipping office, but not off of either of the 2 in the actual shipping area. One of our tech guys reinstalled Epicor on both last week and they worked, but when the came in the next day they didn't work again for this label.
Again on a completely different Zebra printer, Dustin can print same part tags for a customer, but they will not print correctly from either of those 2 systems.
Â
Any other thoughts or direction you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

When we cut to 9.05 all our labels blew up too. I called Zebra and they said it was the app calling their driver that was the issue. I did confirm that printing from anything else to the label printed properly and retained the dimensions of the label specified in the driver.

However, when I print from Epicor/Crystal, the dimensions are lost from the driver and some arbitrary values are inserted and we get labels that print all over the place.

I've had to go in and modify every label now and disassociate the print size from the label size in Crystal 2008, and then STILL the people when they print labels have to manually go into print properties and retype the label dimensions EVERY time to get the label to print properly.

It's pretty sad.

I'm using the Seagull Scientific drivers. I've tried disassociating the paper size, rotating the label, patching the developer's CR2008, tricking the paper size. The only time I got the label to print in the right direction was setting paper size to 8-1/2x11, but then the print driver shrunk my text to postage-stamp size.

What I haven't tried yet is going to CR2008 SP4 on the viewer. The tech wasn't specific about what is buggy in SP5 but I trust this guy. If I can get this to work with SP4 I'll call it a done deal. I won't get to testing this until next week though. If someone comes up with a fix in the meantime I'd be grateful if they would share!

Jenn

I tried the Seagull drivers and had no success, and I've tried SP4 and SP5 and found it made no difference either unfortunately.

I've also run into the same issues you mentioned below of having the postage sized labels.

Seems like of all the things to battle with this software, this shouldn't be one of them.
