XL Connect 7 Live Installation Errors

I am trying to install XL Connect 7 Live to use with my Demo database to use for training and testing.

I downloaded the install files from EpicWeb and have been using the instructions from that download.

My Demo db and SQL server are all on my local machine.

Do I install both the server and client installs on my local machine?

After I unzip all of the folders from the install download, I start running the install. The 1st step always fails and I have to manually install the BizNet files and then go back to the install steps. The installation procedure is creating a folder on the C drive named “Unzipped” that should house the config file. It is not adding the config file to the Unzipped folder and it is giving me an error message that I do not have access to that folder on the C drive. I am the only user on the machine and my user is the Admin. This process gives the same results when I run everything as administrator.

Has anyone else run into these issues while installing XL Connect?

Is there a better set of installation instructions/advice out there besides what comes with the download files from EpicWeb?

I tried to search for something like this on EpicCare Service Portal but did not see anything related to the issue I am getting.

I appreciate any help or tips I can get in order to get XL Connect installed properly.

Thanks!

Tim

This install is a real pain, so I empathize with you.
Server download goes on the db server. Client downloads are on individual machines of end users.
You need to run the server download AND client downloads as an admin, if I recall.

I had to call support after messing with it for like a week, but finally figured it out before they were able to help. I did lock several licenses in the process and had to have Epicor unlock them.

Yeah it has been a pain to say the least!

My server is on my individual machine so I can get the server side installed but it does not let me then install the client side. I am obviously doing something wrong here and servers/program installation is not my strong suit. Guess I will have to call support and see if they can point me in the right direction.

So you got the server side up but are having trouble with the client side? Is it just saying that you cannot write to the C drive?

I do not think I am installing the server side in the right place. As far as I know, my server is on my local machine. If I install the server side on my machine, it will not let me install the client side as it looks back to the server install each time I open it.

And yes, It will not access any of the BizNet files that it tries to unzip to my C drive. It continues to tell me I do not have access but i should be the only one with access.

It’s pretty hard to diagnose without seeing exactly what you’re seeing, but t’s supposed to create a folder on your C Drive called Epicor XL Connect>Downloads>Unzipped>Update Engine.msi.
Running that according to the instructions should create all the files in Program Files(x86)>Epicor>Epicor ERP 3.1.2.

Does that exist on your machine?

It might be that since the client and server installs use the same directory, a simultaneous install is not possible

Yes that is the folder that it says I do not have access to. It is not adding the Update Engine.msi file to that Unzipped folder and will not allow me to copy and paste into that folder. We even tried creating a folder named ABC, copying and pasting the UpdateEngine.msi file to that folder, save, delete the Unzipped folder, and change the ABC folder name to UnZipped. When I do this, it just deletes the file from that folder and still says I do not have access to it even though I created it.

That is what I was thinking too about the simultaneous install. I am in the process of creating a ticket but can’t get it to accept any values for Product Profile and Product Version in the Service Portal Create a Case screen. So at this time I can’t even submit a ticket for my issue…I will try to call support tomorrow and see if that is more helpful then trying to find the information online.

Good luck!
