Wrong Revision in Job Entry

Good morning,
Our engineers asked me today about a change they noticed. They use Job Manager to create a new job for a part. They click on a sales order release to choose a part number and revision to populate the job.

The rev from the release gets added to the job rev. Eventually, engineering will use Get Job Details to pull in the new rev method(once it has been fully engineered). When they do the Get Job Details part, the rev for the job is getting updated to the rev selected in the job details. In the past this always stayed at the sales order rev.

We have always set our parts to “Use Part Rev” in Part Maintenance.

I do not have any active method or data directives firing on these tables or methods. There are personalizations and customizations to the form. Testing with just the base form reveals the same issue. I do not believe that the personalizations or customizations are an issue.

Did something change that is forcing the rev to update on get job details? Can we allow the job rev to stay at the same rev as the sales order, even after clicking get job details to pull in the complete method?
Thanks for your time!
Nate

Why would not want these to match? To me, that’s fixing a bug. If the user doesn’t pick the revision on the order, I would want to job to reflect the revision that was chosen to build the job details.

I agree, and that is fine with me. Our folks are used to a process that has now changed. In the past they expected the rev to stay the same from the SO. I think the idea is that they know what the rev will be at the time the SO is put in, so they document it. But when it comes time to make the job, we build a job before engineering the rev. So, we make up the job number and get it on the schedule, but the rev still has to be engineered. That last step is where the rev is getting replaced, and they (engineers) don’t expect it to. Maybe it was a bug that they worked around for years, and it just got fixed by Epicor. I am hoping someone can confirm that.

I think checking “Use Part Rev” is your problem. It’s one of those confusingly named fields in Epicor. If checked, MRP (and other processes) “Use” the most current effective part revision. If left unchecked a make direct job will use the revision on the sales order.

I unchecked Use Part Rev for one part and then created a job.

Yes, this is true when making the job, say from JobManager, for example. However, once we use Get Job Details, and choose the engineered rev, the job rev gets changed to the rev listed in the engineered rev. We want it to stay as the sales order rev if possible.

I could imagine a directive of some sort helping here, but I want to use the native functionality if it is there.

Whatever rev you pick in get details will be set. Post Processing on get details you can set it back. Revision on the job is just a reference. You can change it to anything on the job valid or not (at least in the non part rev tracked world)
