Wip

Does any have a report to track WIP, I am interested in tracking what
goes into and out of WIP in detail.
Thanks
Chuck
Hello!

I am trying to understand what happens when I move parts from a job to
another job. If I go to Receipts From Mfg I have a choice of moving parts
to either a warehouse or a job. If I move the parts to inventory, I can see
the flow when I close the job. Completed 100 pcs, shipped 50 pcs and 50 pcs
went to inventory. But if I need move those 50 pcs to another job, then
what I see is 100 pcs completed, 50 pcs shipped and 0 pcs to inventory. I
looked at the production detail to see if the cost of the 50 pcs were
removed from the original job and as far as I can tell the cost are still
there. And they are in the job I moved the parts to also. Am I missing
something? This feature would be a fantastic feature for us, but I want to
make sure I'm not screwing up my WIP/COGS accounts. Can someone out there
give me some insight?

Vantage allows us to split the WIP asset account into 5 separate accounts -
WIP-Material, WIP-Labor, WIP-Burden, WIP-Material Burden, and
WIP-Subcontract. Is there really a benefit to doing this vs. one WIP
account? I'd be curious what some of the accounting types think. Thanks.
This is an important issue to us. I've only received one reply so far. Are
there any other thoughts? Thanks.

It can very important, if you want to track your variances on how a job is
quoted and what the actual results are. Contact me off list or call

The benefit is that when your WIP balance doesn't agree to the ledger, it is
easier to reconcile if the ledger transactions are already broken out into
separate accounts. That is, if you know at your material is off, but your
labor and burden are OK, you only have to dig into the material
transactions. Whereas, if everything is throw into one bucket, you have to
look through everything.

Dumb question. Looking for the Work in Process report to open in report
builder. Anyone know were it is?

The CFO wants to know how other companies that are like us are calculating the monthly WIP adjustments. We are currently using a spreadsheet, that you roll from month to month. It contains the information for the previous month and the month that you are closing. That way you can see how much profit or loss you have taken on a job. We don't recognize profit until a job is 97% complete, we do recognize a loss immediately.
Sometimes a job is on this spreadsheet for several months.

Has anyone gotten any ideas on how we could be doing this more efficient (within Vantage)

In the part tracker, there is a tab for WIP. I have checked most of the parts that have jobs running and nothing shows up on this tab. Also, nothing shows up in the PartWIP table. Anybody know why this is? I can run a Work In Process report and get tons of information but nothing shows up on the WIP tab.

Thanks,
Jasper

In Vantage you have to purchase the AMM module to view WIP at specific
locations thru the WIP tab in part tracker.
