WIP Adjustments

I think you need to ask them if they are chasing dollars or inventory.
WIP is just dollars waiting to be moved into cost of goods sold, it does
have ties to things previously in inventory (assuming it has a raw
material component). There are ways to adjust cost to a job (if it
isn't closed it will adjust WIP dollars), and there are ways to move
material to and from inventory with respects to a job (which will affect
both WIP dollars and inventory).

I was asked today how to make inventory adjustments to WIP. I don't know
how this can be done, since WIP is not really a warehouse. Does anyone
out there have experience in this and understand this persons question?

You can Issue Material to a Job thereby placing that Material in WIP and
relieving it from Inventory. I do not think you can place a negative
amount in the Issue Material.

There is also Job Adjustment which you can adjust Material both positive and
negative to a Job.

Could it be "Job Adjustments"? You can impact all cost components in WIP through them, right?

If you have the Advanced Material Management Module, you have the
ability to track your assemblies' progress through WIP, via a
warehouse/bin system.

We use this system religiously to track and report our work in process.

It can be a bit tricky to use, but it has been well worth the effort.
