WinFax or RightFax

We purchased from an expired lease an all-in-one-wonder, and are
currently leasing another. If you have a budget for it, these things
are the way to go. You get scanning (to email / file location /ftp) at
copy speeds, fax capability, copying, and even document management. We
are using a Konica model. I have seen the cannons, and the compression
rate is unbelievable for color scans.

Marty,

We have Winfax. It works fine on a stand-alone system. I'd like to
find
a
better network fax package but haven't had the time (or need) to
checkout
anything. I've been pushing users to email PDF's instead of faxing
whenever
possible.

We had two computers running Win2000 and an older version of Winfax.
They
were setup to send faxes through the modem in one of them. You could
see
what faxes were sent from either computer, but they weren't setup to
share
an address book of fax numbers. We didn't have too many problems with
that
configuration, but occasionally when the client/slave computer tried
to
send
a fax, the server/master wouldn't respond (no error messages, just
nothing
would happen). The fix was to reboot both computers, then the queued
up
faxes would go through.

When we upgraded to newer computers running XP, I was not able to get
that
sharing configuration to work and technical support wasn't any help,
so
now
we just have one computer that sends faxes.

Good Luck,

We have been using RightFax for 5 years and have been very pleased
with
the
product. The support department on a 1-10 scale is between 7 & 8 in
my
opinion.

I have not researched Winfax in a number of years however, at the time
they
did not offer a client/server package. Each workstation required its
own
modem and phone line as opposed to RightFax which works off of a
server
with
one modem and each client sends documents through here. If you have a
small
number of installs WinFax is probably cheaper than RightFax.

If you have more specific questions, feel free to contact me.

The same is true for us with Rightfax. We have just upgraded to the 9
version and found it very stable (although there were some issues with
the upgrade from 8.5, but no data lost in the end). It also integrates
very well into our collections system (GetPAID) which is why we mostly
use it. I, however, rate their support department an 8-9 since during
my upgrade issues, everyone knew their stuff and didn't quit until it
was fully functional up to my expectations. I am not too hopped up on
the SQL engine upgrade with Rightfax 9 since our server is now pushing
its useful life.

We are not using the APM, but when we do print, we just print to the
Rightfax Printer Driver. Rightfax works well over our WAN also.

we just have one computer that sends faxes.

whenever
possible.

We had two computers running Win2000 and an older version of Winfax. They
were setup to send faxes through the modem in one of them. You could see
what faxes were sent from either computer, but they weren't setup to share
an address book of fax numbers. We didn't have too many problems with
that
configuration, but occasionally when the client/slave computer tried to
send
a fax, the server/master wouldn't respond (no error messages, just nothing
would happen). The fix was to reboot both computers, then the queued up
faxes would go through.

When we upgraded to newer computers running XP, I was not able to get that
sharing configuration to work and technical support wasn't any help, so
now
we just have one computer that sends faxes.

Good Luck,

We have been using RightFax for 5 years and have been very pleased with
the
product. The support department on a 1-10 scale is between 7 & 8 in my
opinion.

I have not researched Winfax in a number of years however, at the time
they
did not offer a client/server package. Each workstation required its own
modem and phone line as opposed to RightFax which works off of a server
with
one modem and each client sends documents through here. If you have a
small
number of installs WinFax is probably cheaper than RightFax.

If you have more specific questions, feel free to contact me.

We're considering the purchase of the Advance Print Module which
requires
either
WinFax or RightFax.

Anyone have comments regarding one or the other? Any recommendations or
gotchas?

Thanks,

We us Omtool's Genifax. It runs on a server, as many lines as you want,
keeps the faxes for as long as you want and archives them. (Being in
Aerospace we keep them forever!) It uses Outlooks Business Fax number for
faxing or you can do a one off fax.

They fax and/or PDF and email documents and is completely network-based.
