Another place to look is in device manager in the system icon of the control
pannel. Look at the device for your network card, under Properties, under
the ADVANCED tab look for POWER MANAGEMENT. Herr Gates has decided that the
appropriate default is to power off your network card to save power. I've
had to do this on several machines that want to "disconnect" after a while.

Subject: [Vantage] Windows 2000 Question
I have a new Windows 2000 Professional workstation that Vantage likes to
"lock up" on. It's a DELL Precision P4. I have noticed that the drive
mapped to the Vantage folder has a red X on it after data collection is
idle
for a while, much like a disconnected drive, but when you click it the
mapped drive popps right up like normal.
I think I remember someone saying that their mapped drives were
disconnecting after a "time out" setting on Windows 2000. Does anyone
know
if this is a concern with Windows 2000 Pro. I looked all throught the
network setup and I don't see a place that tells it to disconnect network
connections after a certain length of time.
Any insight would be appreciated.
Thanks
