I have worked with BAK tablets (link below) you can get them with barcode scanners and 4g connection if you want to. The price may be a little more than what you expect but they are american made, durable and very versatile when compared to the surface.
What is the range of the Bar Code Scanner on these devices?
Range as in how far away you can be to read? I’m not sure that I have found the limit but the typical I have seen work is a few feet maybe. You can also get into a demo to try it out or do as I did and have them send one try it and they let you return it risk free if you don’t like it in 30 days.
If this is for a production floor we we have been very happy with tablets from Mobile Demand. I have a fleet of ~25 T7200’s that run 7 pro that we have been using for many years, and a few newer models that running 10 pro. Unfortunately have to replace all of our 7200s in the next year due to 7 going EOL, not sure what I will end up with. One option I always look for is hot swappable batteries. They never last as long as rated and sure is handy to have charged spare batteries you can swap out as needed if someone forgot to plug in the tablet the night before. I second the couple feet max on the bar-code depending on size.
