Having experienced several ERP systems, I find Vantage no faster or
slower than any of the others.
I will admit that the "Smart Client" requirements make it a poor choice
for companies with limited IT budgets.
In terms of user friendliness, ERP implementations are by and large a
painful process with a long learning curve but once the users are up to
speed they are generally happy with the system.
Customizing user entry screens are very easy and training is available
for advanced customizations.
I do agree that Vantage consulting for custom programming is very
expensive, but so is SAP and Great Plains as well as the fact that there
are other vendors out there who will not support a system that has been
customized. I would advise that any company who believes they will have
an ongoing need for custom programming that they invest in VB and
Progress DBA training for one or two of their technical personnel.
I have had experience with Great Plains, SAP, Macola's Exact, Profit
Key, and Vantage
My top choice would be Great Plains, with Vantage as a close second,
however support agreements for GP are way more expensive.
SAP is OK out of the box but it is very unforgiving with data migrations
done incorrectly, I won't touch upon cost of ownership because any
company that can afford SAP is not worried about cost.

Not me.
From an IT perspective it is slow, user unfriendly, cumbersome and
inhibiting to manage.
The system lacks basic common reports (even though you can make your
own).
I would have expected more.
My accounting users don't like the user interface, thinks it's slow and
unfriendly, too.
Vantage support is friendly but often not very helpful.
Custom programming is downright greedy.
If it were up to me I'd dump it.
