I need to write 2 reports. The first report needs to filter a group of
part numbers and see all the parent parts that they go in. The other
report would be the opposite. I need to filter a group of parent part
numbers and see what parts are in them. I am having absolutely no luck.
Has anyone ever achieved this? If you have, could you throw some hints
my way?

If you are on 6.1, there is a canned report for Where Used - under Advanced
Bill of Materials (if you have the module).

You can recreate the Where Used in Crystal or Report Builder by creating
Alias Table joins to the PartMtl Table, one fore each level of your BOM.
Report Builder will limit you to 8 levels I'm not sure about Crystal.

Start with the Part Table and join to PartMtl (Alias PM1).

(Level 1)
Part.Company to PM1.Company
Part.PartNum to PM1.MtlPartNum
Left OuterJoin

(Level 2)
PM1.Company to PM2.Company
PM1.PartNum to PM2.MtlPartNum
Left OuterJoin
