I’ll do my best explaining this.
For my experiment, the gist is:
- Site B has a SALES order; part IS quantity-bearing
- Site A manufactures the part; it is NOT qty-bearing yet IS non-stock
- Site B creates a Transfer Order
- Site A gets no obvious demand to make it
- Go ahead and make the thing anyway in Site A; make it TO STOCK (odd, right?); do not auto-receive
- Job Receipt to Inventory TO THE OTHER SITE. This is like shipping it.
- Still need to do a “Receive Transfer Order” in Site B.
- Somehow the system magically links the job to the order needing it.
This is my stream-of-consciousness notes:
- Part 5239A – gusset on a trailer
- In Mfg it is non-stock and not qty-bearing
- In PDC it is qty-bearing (and not non-stock)
- In PDC part type is Transfer (from Mfg)
- In Mfg, type is Manufactured
- Sales order in PDC site to a customer for 20 pcs.
- 3 on-hand in PDC; none in Mfg (obviously)
- Therefore need is 17 from Mfg
- Note: Initially the (only) release on the line was set to pull from Mfg, even though I was logged into PDC. This also flagged the order as make direct (as it’s non-stock in Mfg!) To avoid all this, define a product group and its selling site, then pick that group for the line before saving the line.
- Ran MRP for 5239A only
- Got a transfer order suggestion in PDC . Had to think about that. It’s a suggestion for PDC to order 17 pcs. from Mfg. But it’s still at the PDC’s discretion to order it from Mfg—MRP is not demanding this transfer
- The suggestion does show on the Mfg side as well. But there is not yet anything there on how to fulfill the suggestion. (See Time Phase pic below.)
- Firmed the suggestion in PDC. Ran MRP again (all sites, but only this part). Still no suggestions in Mfg on how to fulfill this demand.
- Made a job to stock for these (yes it let me)
- Job adj (or time entry) for 17 pcs.
- DO NOT AUTO-RECEIVE!
- Job receipt to inventory to the other site!
- Creates a MFG-PLT transaction in Mfg site
- Eliminates the transfer order suggestion in Mfg site
- But no PLT-STK in PDC site until…
- Receive Transfer Order in PDC site for the 17 pcs. against the same order?!
- Yeah, that worked! No idea how.
- Turns out I can do this without an order, too
- And the original transfer order receipt in Time Phase is gone. So it’s as if I shipped the transfer order from the job (WIP) even though I did absolutely nothing to link them together.
- Apparently if you date the receipt, you can save there (without “receive all”). But you still can’t change the quantity. Or delete a receipt.
