I'm assuming this computer is in your domain and you have an authorized
user logged in.

try this:
net use e: \\servername\share /user:domainname\username

Once this works slap the following on the end of the line.

I have two servers, Server 1 and Server 2. Server 1 is our file server
and runs Vantage (this is the server that authenticates the user).
Server 2 is our email server and secondary file server for some people.
They are both on the same domain. In the logon script I have (as an
example) Net Use O: \\server1\public. I would also like to map a drive
to server 2 but I am having a problem getting this to work as Net Use Z:
\\server2\newfolder. When I look at the server properties they are both
designated as Domain Server. For the net use for server2 -- Do I need
to add the user/password? Any help would be appreciated since we are
running out of room on server1 and I would like to map our engineers to
server2.

Your syntax looks right. So it is probably permissions. Is the
folder on server2 shared and check the permissions on the share.

Active Directory Environment or NT 4.0 (just asking)?

Is "newfolder" shared w/appropriate share & NT rights?

If Active Directory, Vantage server is better off not being a Domain
Controller.

Both are Windows 2003, the permissions are ok -- through network
neighborhood I can open files in the folder, we are using AD. We are
signing on to the domain -- both servers are on the same domain. I
should also mention that the script works on a W98 PC but tells you it
is an invalid password -- when you enter the user's password it works.
However, on W2000 or XP it doesn't work and you get no error message (or
it zips by so fast you can't read it).

Could you post your script?
I would suggest refraining from using the letter Z for mapping drives.
Win98 uses Z in the background to access the NETLOGON folder on the domain controller.

You can try to put in a "pause" during the script to see if something
comes up before the pause.

On the next line after 'net use ...." Type the word pause.

This will prevent the login script from exiting automatically allowing
you to view any error messages.

I'm assuming this computer is in your domain and you have an authorized
user logged in.

try this:
net use e: \\servername\share /user:domainname\username

Once this works slap the following on the end of the line.

Sandy,

Will the script work properly on a workstation that has an admin logged on? Browse to the script and double click it to see if it works with admin rights. If it does, double check your permissions and security settings. To do so right click on the share and select Sharing and Security. Click the Permissions button on the Sharing tab. Try setting the permissions to EVERYONE FULL CONTROL. Then run the script from the users logon. If it works then apply appropriate groups to the permissions. If you have multiple DC's it might take a bit for your settings to propagate.

I wouldn't use persistant:yes as when your share structure changes you have to deal with getting old share info that you made persistant deleted from the client rather than just editting the script with the change. I prefer to use persistant:no so the drives are mapped (or not) at each log in.
