Warning: do not apply 5.20.310 patch

Vantage development did a very bad thing...they released the 310 patch
with the bug and then replace it with another 310 patch that has the
license fix. I already berated them about doing this as this is not
proper document control.

You can tell the difference on the 310 patches by the file size.
Regardless the 311 patch is released now

I am looking at their site now and the 310 patch is still there,
dated 1/28/03. Has the patch been officially pulled? Maybe my ISP just
needs to update their web cache.

I am posting this message per a request from Vantage Technical Support.

There is a problem with the 5.20.310 patch. It has been pulled or will be
pulled shortly. If you have already downloaded it, DO NOT APPLY IT!
Development is currently working on fixing the patch and will re-post it as
soon as possible.

Hey Britt, you should see the egg on my face, considering I was just teasing
you a few days ago about being gun shy when it came to applying patches!
:-)

Scott

"Just" license corruption or, at least, something wrong or missing that was
interpreted as license corruption.

In any case, according to Technical Support, the fixed patch is now
available for download. I think I'll let Britt take another turn...

We got a "license corruption" back on 1/13/03, and as it turns out it
was our cu$tom programming which had an expiration date coded within.
This shut us down for about 5 hours!

We are beginning to get concerned about the quality of the software
Epicor is publishing.. If their quality control is this bad with a minor
patch, how bad will it be with Sonoma????

By the way.Tech Support has been super!!!, . it is development that
seems to be the problem!

What I have a problem with is that they can send me marketing e-mails all
the time but when there is a problem with a patch, I have to hear it from
this group. It wouldn't be hard at all to track who downloads the patches
and send an e-mail out letting us know what's going on and a legit time
frame to expect the issue to be resolved. I don't think many of us expect
100% perfection with any software package. Something like Vantage is to
complicated. What I do expect is proper communication. I have never been
pleased with Epicor when it comes to that. I also agree, 99% of the time I
am more then pleased with the helpful people at Tech Support. There is not
to many tech support groups I would say that about. I often feel bad for
them. You can hear the frustration in their voices. I think Epicor is
missing a critical step in their QA process. They need to get a volunteer
company physically close to them to be a test bed for new releases. Even
have an Epicor person on staff at the site all the time. It may not sound
practical but I bet there is some company that would gladly test the
releases for a waver in their maint fee and a free IT/ERP person. It would
save a company our size $30,000 in maint and 60K in staff and be worth
considering. Then, if there is a problem with a release, they can put all
of their energy into that one company. Fix the immediate problem for that
company and stop it from happening to other customers. Customer
satisfaction goes up, customer retention goes up, Epicor makes more money.
I'm not sure anyone has ever taught them the old saying that its much easier
to keep a customer then to find a new one.

My 2 cents worth on my 3rd Monday this week.

I got a license corruption issue, but I do not have any custom programming -
just straight out of the box vantage - so this issue is NOT limited to those
with customer programming. And, since you received the error before I did,
they obviously new it was an issue, but I had not heard about it from them,
or that there was this 'must-download' new patch to prevent it. I agree
with Jeremy that better communication on their part of these know issues
would make me a much more satisfied customer.

I am looking at their site now and the 310 patch is still there, dated 1/28/03. Has the patch been officially pulled? Maybe my ISP just needs to update their web cache.
