Vntg 6.0 Performance Optimizations

There is a rather cool program from Support that asks a bunch of questions and aims to optimize the Progress settings based on various criteria (# users, memory, DB size, etc...). Hard to tell how much it helped but we did notice at first 6.0 is slower, maybe we are just used to it now. We noticed a slight increase in speed back on 5.2 when we bumped memory to 1GB but for real performance gain using the fastest disks available might be more productive. I've never felt network was a bottleneck (all 100Mbps) but did recently upgrade servers to 1Gbps connected to one Gigabit switch with all the users still 100Mbps. Mainly just to get faster inter-switch speeds for nightly backup via 2-Step process thru a NAS box )backup top NAS then tape form NAS at leisure).

We have 40 users on 550Mhz Xeon single processor and performance for the most part is acceptable.

We recently upgraded to version 6.0 from 5.1 and noticed 6 is a bit
slower for the clients. Is there any way to optimize the Progress
server software for better performance? The server is dedicated to
running Vantage. Our database is 1.2Gb and we have a live and test
copy of it running.

We're running an NT server with 512MB ram and 1GHz processor, single
10/100 NIC, with 25 clients running Win98 and XP.

Thanks!

Erik, I'd at least double the RAM for starters.
