Subject: [Vantage] Ver 5 conversion
We went to Ver 5 this weekend, and I am just now at a point where I can
take time to email.
We have a 3.2 GB database, 49 logins. Half our users are thin client.
I had ver 5 running on our new server (no ver 4). First step was to
windows copy the data from the Ver 4 box to the ver 5 box, do the
prostruct repair etc. When I did the test conversion several weeks ago,
I ran the schema changes from a workstation, and it took 15 hrs. Epicor
told me that I could run it directly from the server, so I began the
progress schema change from the server which began Friday at 5:30 pm.
Twenty one hours later it was still running, so I aborted it. I then
recopied the data, and ran the schema change from a workstation, which
then took 15 hrs 42 minutes to complete.
I used PcAnywhere to monitor the remainder of the conversion (it halted
on 4 sales orders with an "ok" box , and a warning concerning something
about a warehouse problem.... they really should have created a log
instead of pausing the installation). The Vantage Schema changes (incl
the 3.17 patch) took another 16 hours.
The problems we had Monday were:
- Data Collection devices running thru Terminal Server would peg the
CPU utilization to 100 %.
- Our two most used reports (picking slips) would never bring up the
filters. Epicor dosen't know why, they first told us we had too many
filters (7), then they told us to re-create the reports... Still not
working, but we can print the reports from Report Builder.
- Windows 2K workstations can't launch eMfg
- Having strange infrequent problems on our Terminal Servers...
minimizing Vantage prompts with "ok to leave Vantage", ... TAB not
working all the time... etc.
- Since eMfg requires Explorer 4 or greater, the installation of IE
5 totaly screwed up our main label printing computer, and are now having
to re-load the OS (without eMfg of course!)
... other than that everything is working perfectly!
