VB Form and Crystal Reports

Wow, thanks Wayne, that will be a great help for us.

Guess I better read my help a little bit better.

You can make them longer. Just go into the field's format and set the
length higher. I just checked the help, and it says it will go clear to
256 chars. There's also a editor window, with multiple lines and scroll
bars that's a little nicer than the single box for comments and other long
text

I am not able to access the VB Form fields in Crystal Reports. Am I doing
something wrong or are they not accessible?

What I wanted to do is add a place where the estimator can add internal
notes that can be printed at the end of the Quote on a separate page (so the
customer would not get it).

Thanks!

De Anna,

There are a number of places that might be tripping you up. First, make
sure you give the VB form field a name in the field attributes "External
Name". VB fields that do not have an external name are NOT output for
printing to Crystal. Next, run the report on the same machine that you use
to design the Crystal report (I mean to say, run the Quote printing from
Vantage). Now, open CR and the quote report, goto -->Database > Verify
Database. You should be prompted to fixup the report - respond, Yes. This
should make your new VB field visible to CR.

I had similar problems accessing vantage fields from crystal, but finally
did manage to get it to work, after rebooting crystal and vantage a couple
of times.

What really su- or is less than optimal with the vantage basic fields is
that you are limited to like 8 or ten characters per string field, so thise
internal notes will need to be somewhat abbreviated.

Happy Reporting,

Thaddeus
