Vantage & Windows Versions

Thanks, That is what I was hoping to hear. Real World experiences vs. the
Computer Support World policy.

Vantage 8.0 requires .Net extensions found only in Windows-2000 (with
extensions added) and XP Pro. Until then Win98 works OK through 6.10 (all
of our shop floor PCs are Win98) ....but you will get told by Epicor support
that Win98 is no longer supported by Microsoft so in sticky situations they
might claim you need to get up to at least Win2K. I buy all my new PCs with
XP-Pro but load Win2K and the stability difference is amazing over Win98.
One caution about XP-Pro Spk2 is that it is stated on the Vantage support
site it is not OK for Vantage so new machines pre-loaded with XP-Pro Spk2
could be a problem out of the box.

On which version of Vantage do you have to upgrade the clients off of 98?
We are on 5.2 currently and are looking to moving up to 6.xx and would like
to avoid any unexpected costs.

There may be different opinions, but we have been on XP pro Service Pack 1
since it was available. We are on version 5.0. Other than puzzling out the
logic of W2k server and XP we've had no OS issues. I think possibly we will
be going to V8 in 05, hopefully if we do things won't turn to tomato juice.
I have no problem going to Service Pack 2. Except, that the built in
firewall will need to be turned OFF.
