Vantage via VPN

Hi Erik

I have used 33K modems before into a modem pool and it is not a nice
user experience as it is the srceens are slow to refresh

Now we are using 1M download and 256K upload and client sites are using
512K download and 256K upload

Anyone using the Vantage client through a VPN connection? If so, how
well does it work or not work? How fast are you connections and what
kind of problems have you run into?

We are running Vantage 6.0 with a fractional T1, 384K dedicated to
data and the clients have cable modems.

Thanks!

Erik,
Set up terminal server and run Vantage locally (at your shop) at a minimum.
You will not like the results of running Vantage over a VPN directly.
Running via TS or some other remote desktop is the only real solution I have
seen work reasonably.
Good luck,

Hi Erik

We use terminal services and have no operational problems with it. It
is sometimes faster than a local client.

I believe there are some issues with crystal dll's that need copying
onto the terminal server.and we have had issues with having the same
printer drivers on the server that are installed on the client.

Vantage 8, I believe will be thin client anyway and it is questionable
that terminal services will still be required for Vantage.

Hope this helps

Gary
