Shutting down admin service does not shut down the database, only the
ability to shut down the database(ie you'll get an error if you try to
connect in Progress Explorer). I believe you can safely shutdown the admin
service with the database still running(I've done it in 5.0 but not in 4.0).
You can try it with the 9.0 service running, the worst that will happen is
that you'll get a database in multi-user mode error or some other file
access error in which case you will have to stop the service.

OK, I am with you so far. I am going to use our "COPYLIVE" database and it
will not be a problem to stop. However, if I stop the admin services for
9.0b on the live server will that take Vantage down for the users? Or do I
only have to stop the 9.1 admin services? If so that is ok.
Sorry for all the silly questions, but I am very new to this.

You will have to shut down 4.0 and 5.0 databases, and stop the admin
services. On the 5.0 machine go to epic50\progress\bin. Type procopy
x:\4.0dblocation\vantage x:\5.0dblocation\vantage

Hi Troy,
Thanks to you and all others here and offline that responded. I have been
able to get the Training Data up and going fine.
Now I am considering converting our backup database (4.0.811) to 5.0 and
eventually 5.1. I have never done this so I am quite unsure of what to do.
5.0 is not on our live 4.0 server. Do I use procopy to move the database? I
take it I cannot just copy and paste to move the files and then do the
schema changes.

Jim,
In answer to your questions...
1) Can we go straight to 5.1 or do we need to apply the latest patches to
4.00 then likewise 5.00 before going to 5.1?
--Try it and see on a test case, but I don't believe you can.
2) I have done a test installation of 5.0 and it is working, however ...
--5.0 should bring over all your usernames, etc when you do your schema
changes, etc. on the database. Are you sure you're not looking at the sample
database that comes with Vantage? Did you do all the schema changes & data
conversions?
Alternately, perhaps you didn't enter all the Vantage License codes for the
various modules when you installed Vantage 5.0.

We too are considering going from 4.00.811 to 5.1 and I have and will have
some questions, for I am somewhat new to Vantage.

4.00 then likewise 5.00 before going to 5.1?
2) I have done a test installation of 5.0 and it is working, however It
acts
as if I don't have access to everything. Sales,Materials, and Financial
Management groups will not let me access any sub-groups. I am signed in as
manager with manager rights. What is the default login for when you first
install Vantage? I am only able to login with the manager training login.
Thanks for any help offered.
