Vantage ST File (5.1.131)

Dick,
Your d5 will grow dynamically as needed.

By the way, there is no longer a 2GB limit on progress databases as of 5.1 (progress 9.1C). You have to do a very simple command line command to "turn large db size on" in progress. Thus, multiple extents are no longer necessary for larger databases. However, you still may get some performance increases by splitting up your database into multiple extents that span multiple drives.

Subject: [Vantage] Vantage ST File (5.1.131)

Fellow Epicorians,
my db structure looks like this:
vantage.d1......512000
vantage.d2......512000
vantage.d3......512000
vantage.d4......512000
vantage.d5......66304

My Vantage.ST files has these entries:
#
b .\vantage.b1 f 256000
b .\vantage.b2
#
d "Schema Area":6,32 .\vantage.d1 f 512000
d "Schema Area":6,32 .\vantage.d2 f 512000
d "Schema Area":6,32 .\vantage.d3 f 512000
d "Schema Area":6,32 .\vantage.d4 f 512000
d "Schema Area":6,32 .\vantage.d5

My questions is, must I create another extent via a modification in my
Vantage.ST file?
Or will the d5 file grow unchecked? It appears that I have some time to go
on the d5 file,
but am wondering when and if I need to take action.

thanks a bunch,

I believe since the .d5 doesn't have a fixed length it will grow as large as
it needs to go(within Progress' specs). My preference would be to set it to
a fixed length and add a new .d6 sometime before .d5 reaches something like
400000. You might want to check with support.
