Vantage Payroll & HR Module Feedback

Hi to All,

We are also looking at the Vantage HR module.
It is not hooked into the Vantage database yet, maybe in the next 60
days.
We also use ADP.
I have seen some early numbers ($) on the Vantage HR module.
Compared to setting up another system ( a sql server and licenses etc.)
maybe the $price is ok.
Key for us is how it will be integrated into the Vantage Progress
Database.

Please keep me posted, anything I learn I will pass on.

Thanks,

John Mansfield

We are on Vantage 6.1 currently using ADP for payroll. Management
wants to look at the Vantage Payroll and HR options. I would like
any feedback from companies using those modules or companies who have
looked at those modules and decided against them, especially if you
are using or have used ADP.

All comments welcome.

Thanks,

We had ADP at one time but now use Paychex because the price for ADP kept creeping up every year. We looked at the Payroll module when we first converted to Vantage but opted at that time to use ADP. We are right below the fine line of cost justifying doing payroll in-house versus outsourcing it. We would need to dedicate about 3/4 of a person to payroll versus farming out a few labor collection tasks to various people and manually entering the hours for the payroll service. At some point the costs for a payroll position and the Vantage module become less over a short of period than ADP or Paychex for a given number of employees. I don't recall what that break even point was but it was larger than we are.

Another factor is in calculation of overtime. We purchased the data collection export to ADP custom programming module, which I gather is like a stripped down version of the Payroll mod, intending to speed data transfer to ADP. But the capabilities for handling overtime rules (and all the various flavors of hours {per week or day}, weekends, holidays, etc...) were not availabile. Our ovetime rules are really complex so we ended up having to manually review and adjust most of them anyway. If the Vantage Payroll module is indeed just as limited as the export this could be a critical issue.

Also with a payroll service there is no annual hassle with W-2s and regulatory reports. They do all the forms and printing. Disbursements and paperwork for court ordered garnishment is also handled directly to the proper authority - like a direct deposit to the bank. Speaking of which our office payroll is mandatory direct deposit and we are implementing it as an option in the plant. The payroll services are 100% in tune with electronic transfer to all the banks so there is no learning curve or file formats at this end to deal with.

We are at 150 employees. Overtime rules aside at maybe 200-250 it might start to make sense for us to pull it in-house.

Brian:
We've used the payroll module since we went live with Vantage almost 2 years
ago. I like it, it's very easy. There definitely was some setup required,
but after that initial effort, if you use labor reporting - it's a piece of
cake. We have 120 employees now, (down some from when we first started),
and it only takes me about 1/2 day to process it each week. The quarter and
year-end reports are a breeze now too. We purchased a third party HR
package because Vantage didn't have one available at the time, and that
works very well. (Vantage's might too, I don't know.)

Just my .02 cents!

We have used the Vantage payroll module since 1999. We used ADP prior to
that. the biggest difference is that the payroll tax reporting became an
internal operation. The labor distribution is much easier (system generated
entries). There was a hesitancy on the part of our payroll clerk, and we had
to deal with the creation of a nacha file for direct deposits, however all
in all I feel it is far superior to sending the payroll out. With few
exceptions (tax reporting, check generation),any work you do in Vantage for
payroll generation, you have to do with ADP.
