We have about 120 employees (down from a couple years ago), and yes, tax
filing is easy. The report I get after payroll is posted each week gives me
all the totals for taxes and everything else. Then A/P does electronic
filing of the taxes, both state and federal. I also use the system's
reports to file quarterly taxes, and year-end including W-2's. I use the
system reports for deductions and earnings all the time. If your company
uses Vantage's data collection, payroll is a snap and I think the decision
to use Vantage's payroll would be an easy one. If you don't use DC, and
have alot of employees that you had to manually enter time in for each week,
then I would weigh it against the time spent getting that info to your
outside payroll service.
These are the things that I do "outside" of what the system gives me:
1. A report I created from labor entry that gives me the clock-in & out
times for each employee for my payroll period. (You may have time-cards
instead). I use this report to calculate hours, add in vacation etc. When
I generate payroll in Vantage, I use my report as I go through payroll and
add vacation hours or other things like jury duty pay, funeral leave or
whatever and just make sure Vantage and my report match.
2. A simple weekly summary report I have in Excel for A/P that gives
them the taxes, 401K, direct deposit, number of hours and
number of employees information. They use it to pay the taxes, 401K and
post the direct deposit amount, etc.
3. The 401K export file I mentioned earlier.
