Vantage over VPN connection

Im using PC Anywhere version 8 and have had no problems, but I set mine up
a bit differently than normal. I guess thats just me ANYWAY When you
start PC/Anywhere from home and you choose remote control and normally it
goes out and searches the network over your VPN and displays a list of
computers waiting for connection with the green light. You just double
click the one you want and your there. Well that didnt work too well for
me. I ended up Adding a Remote Control Item ( its a selection on the
remote control screen ). After adding this it creates a new ICON on the
Remote Control Screen in PC/Anywhere. You can edit this ICON and enter the
direct TCP/IP address of the machine you want to connect to at work. After
doing this I was online and working fine.

Hope this helps
Paul L.

I am attempting to connect our first home user to Vantage over VPN. I was able to install the client over the VPN connection but when I try to connect to the database nothing happens. I get the splash screen then nothing. Any clues on where to start?
Home user is on NT4 SP6 w\cable modem connection. Server is 2000 w\dual ISDN connection.

Keith,
I attempted to run vantage over a cable modem, and the band width
was not there
for adequate response. We have since gone to a VPN solution in conjunction
with terminal
server. Works great.
This is why we are using Citrix Metaframe for our VPN users. Vantage isn't
"speedy" enough over the internet. Maybe there is another now, but 2 years
ago, we went with Citrix.

Yup! Grab a cup o' coffee and wait :)

If you haven't done any special Vantage configuration, it's trying to pull
many many MB over your connection. Epicor used to document a remote
connection setup where you installed a local copy of all the files normally
pulled from the server (Vantage .R files, DLLs, progress code, etc) and
only traffic to the Progress DB service went over the remote
connection. But the best setup nowadays is terminal server or some type of
remote control software.

I have just gotten VPN working here. I havent been able to install Vantage
5.0 at home, but loaded PC Anywhere and can remote control my computer at
work. I have been running Vantage this way with great success. Login times
are about 45 seconds and after that its pretty much normal.

FYI

I have been using the same thing but now I need the ability to print to the home office printer. Also PCAnywhere keeps losing the ability to use the keyboard often which requires reconnecting constantly...

Thanks,
