Vantage Export question

Yup. Should be in the EGroup archives under "export utility - left outer
join" Or I could try to scrounge up some of the messages. One big thing
is Vantage 4.0 seems to have some extra functionality in the query syntax
that 3.0 doesn't. Or is that a Progress 8.3 vs 9.0 issue? Well after 14
months of Vantage implementation and Y2k fixing, I'm trying to regain my
status as programmer. With any luck, I'll figure out how to be a Progress
Jockey here soon & can tell ya'

I'm teaching myself the Export utility in Vantage. I need to export 3 tables: Jobhead, Customer, Labordtl
I know that the Customer table hardly links with anything in RB. Is the linking the same for the Export utility as for RB? Would I base it on the Data Dictionary Report also?

Thanks!

The customer table can be linked with any table that has the customernum
field in it.

The data dictionary tells you what fields are in what tables and how the
tables are related to each other. This tool is not report builder specific,
it is the same for every reporting or data linking application.

Wendy,

After selecting your first table, Vantage will present only tables
that can link with that one... When you select the second (or subsequent)
table, Vantage asks if you want to create a join. I haven't found a way to
modify the joins, and sometimes it creates screwy (i.e. unusable) joins, but
it often works. There was even a thread recently (started by Mr. Cox, I
think!?) that discussed how to set up left-outers in the Export Utility.

Good luck!

The usual join to the Customer table is with custnum which is
what you would use here. When using export chose your fist table
carefully. When using the Query Wizard you can only filter or sort
on the first tables fields.
