Vantage crash -- guess what?

FWIW; I am on version 4....

4 out of 5 troubled users go to the same pub, I mean hub. Time for a new
set of switches.

I thought this problem could have been related to a hub,
so I ran a line from a 10/100 switch to the problem
computer. Same problem! I like the 9mm solution.

Hmmm.... there goes the hypothesis. I might get a few new switches in
anyway, just to rule out the possibility. The funny thing is that all 4
users "sit" almost right next to each other on the hub. They are in the
same group of six at least.

So for now here is what we have to work with:
Only certain workstations will drop out.
Sometimes Outlook will drop out as well.
The problem does not seem to affect other programs or the OS, ie. the
user can continue to work in other applications.
CTRL-ALT-DEL does not reveal any instances of progress.exe on the
affected system.
The Progress window (the one where you have to press the space bar to
get rid of it) does not always pop up.
The problem can not be reproduced at will.
If one user loses Vantage, the others will go down most of the times as
well.
No error messages anywhere.
A connection will remain open in ProMon.
The problem causes liver damage if worked on in combination with
alcoholic beverages for a prolonged time.

I am not too sure about the 9mm solution. Too easy for the offending hard or
software. I favor the solution for non cooperative systems seen in the
movie "Office Space".
