I would be careful about the decision not to use a Citrix server. It is
more expensive, but there are other uses for it that may justify the cost.
For example, you may have people who could work from home, not just in
Vantage, but with any other programs you use (Office, email, etc.). Also,
if you have people who travel occasionally, they would really benefit from
having this kind of access. The real cost savings is when you start using
it internally. We use citrix connections on our shop floor. If you buy
terminals instead of workstations for people who only use Vantage, you can
save a lot of money on hardware and hardware support. And, you can lock
them into just Vantage (or any other program you wish).

to our Vantage database. We have been able to set them up where they can
access Vantage via a modem, but it is painfully slow (15 minutes just to log
in). Vantage support suggested a Citrix server. This option is expensive
considering we have only a few users that need to access Vantage in this
manner. Has anyone else had the same problem and found a less expensive
alternative?

We have one small Pentium machine set up running PC-Anywhere. Works great.
Response is almost as good as "live in the office". Costs 1 computer, a
modem and a license of PC-Anywhere for each remote user. We used to use
Reachout (a copy came with Vantage) but it was nothing but trouble.

I have gone this route with 2 dedicated "remote" machines, but I used NetOp
over the internet instead of PC Anywhere via dialup.. NetOp is faster than
PC anywhere and has been quite bullet proof. ( I think it costs more ). If
you also buy NetOp gateway s/w you can have any authorized user connect over
the internet with full security without having to use NT RAS. ( I'm still
testing this option ).

I was going to use WTS but when I started to look into it I was told to make
sure that it was running on it's own server, as it had a tendency to crash
every now and then. 2 pc's are cheaper and more stable than one WTS
machine. This logic probably does not apply if you start to have more than
just 2 or 3 remote users.

I'll second the notion of using 1 or 2 stand alone PC's running
PcAnywhere.

Works great and for only 1 or 2 people it's MUCH cheaper than WTS /
CITRIX.
