I noticed that, I was doing my usual catch up here this morning and
finally ran into it. Thanks for sharing Chris.

Hi Lynn,

I have got the Refresh and Clear buttons working very well on my
dashboard.

They are very useful and a lot faster to locate & click on than the
standard vantage ones.

Does anybody want me to post the code to add them? It's really easy in
the end after a lot of trial and error.

Hi Robert,

Although the sounds tehcnically easy, its not for me (novice).

Do you have any suggestions where to start? I dont even know where the
button wizard or the tracing option is.

Also Im now having this problem where the Dashboard isn't pulling in any
information at all, even though the BAQ that drives the dashboard is
working fine.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why it may not be pulling in any
data?

Cheers,

When in doubt, put tracing on and hit the buttons to see what BO methods
are called (as well as any arguments they may require for a BAQ forced
refresh).

Then add your custom button controls, use the wizard to add the basic
button press/mouse click event triggered sub and within those subs add
the BO method invoking code you just discovered by tracing.

Hi,

I hope somebody can help ...

If you create a BAQ and then use it in a Dashboard and add a Tracker view, but then go back to the BAQ and add extra fields of change the column headers, is there any way of re-importing the BAQ into the dahboard without having to re-create the Dashboard and Tracker View etc?

Also if anyone knows how to add a CLEAR, REFRESH and REFRESH ALL button to a Dahboard, I would appreciate any help.

We are on version 8.03.406A.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

CHRIS THOMPSON

Chris:

Did you get this one figured out? I was also waiting for an answer to your question about re-importing a BAQ and refreshing a dashboard with a modification to the underlying BAQ.

I also have a Dashboard for which I created a customized tracker last week. Later when I wanted to enhance the BAQ, I didn't know how to get the tracker to recognize the changes to the BAQ so I ended up doing nothing to it.

In the past, I always deleted the dashboards and re-created them. However, this one has more customization on the tracker & I'd prefer to not have to re-create it.

Hi Lynn,

Ive asked Epicor the same question.

I am finding that the Tracker customising screen is also not doing things that it is supposed to do.

I have just looked at my Dahboard, and it looks like the modified underlying BAQ has pulled through - maybe this is just somthing that happens once you save the Dahsboard and close it then re-open it - perhaps it's another Vantage "feature".

If anybody has a solution to the code to put a Refresh, Refresh All and Clear button on the Tracker it'd be appreciated.

I have tried an Answer book but it doesn't seem to work for me.

Has anybody else tried an answer book and had success?

Cheers,

CHRIS

So, I guess your saying that the modified BAQ will go to the dashboard if I try opening, resaving, & restarting it.

On your other question:

My tracker does exactly what I need it to do.

I followed AnswerBook 5853ESC to put a date range filter in the tracker and I added additional filters for PartNum and PartDesc. The "Begins With" was very useful in filtering by PartDesc.

I didn't feel the need to add any clear & refresh buttons.

I saw that the Clear button is for the Tracker filtering fields, and not for the dashboard itself. And the Refresh button refreshes my dashboard with the desired information from the Tracker filter fields.

If I want to refresh the entire dashboard, I hit the Clear button to clear out the filter fields, then I press the refresh button to pull in all data again.

I'm OK with the fact that Clear does not really clear the dashboard. And the Refresh button always refreshes the data in the dashboard.

A side note: I do not make the REFRESH All button available to the users for most of my dashboards. For some dashboards, the dataset will be too large and if the user presses "Refresh All" in error, they will be waiting a very long time since some people are using old computers and they are in other buildings in other cities very far from the server. I'm satisfied with the functionality of my Clear & Refresh buttons. I'm on 8.03.404.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say you need to add Clear and Refresh buttons to the "Search part of your dashboard".

If you like, I can send you screen shots so that you can compare your buttons to mine.

In addition to AnswerBook 5853ESC, AnswerBook 5135ESC may also be applicable to your tracker. I use the Epicor AnswerBooks frequently, and unlike the on-line help, I rarely find errors in the AnswerBooks.

Hi Lynn,

When I say I want the refresh and clear buttons on the dashboard, I mean that instead of the user clicking on the tiny little buttons on the standard vantage tool bar (next to delete etc), I want to add some large clickable buttons on the tracker part of my dashboard to perform the same tasks.

I am happy with how the refresh, clear and refresh all buttons work, I just want the BIGGER so clumsy fingers won't click on the wrong button.

I have now hit a problem where the Dashboard/Tracker isn't pulling the correct data (well any data).

I dont know why. It was working perfectly yesterday and without changing anything it is not working today.

If I click Refresh it doesnt pull in any data.

Thanks,

CHRIS

Hi Robert,

Although the sounds tehcnically easy, its not for me (novice).

Do you have any suggestions where to start? I dont even know where the button wizard or the tracing option is.

Also Im now having this problem where the Dashboard isn't pulling in any information at all, even though the BAQ that drives the dashboard is working fine.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to why it may not be pulling in any data?

Cheers,

CHRIS THOMPSON

Hi Lynn,

I have got the Refresh and Clear buttons working very well on my dashboard.

They are very useful and a lot faster to locate & click on than the standard vantage ones.

Does anybody want me to post the code to add them? It's really easy in the end after a lot of trial and error.

Cheers,

Hi,

To add a 'Search' and 'Clear' button on your dashboard tracker, the first thing you need to do is add two buttons.

Call the Search button btnRefresh and the Clear button btnClear.

In the script editor for the page where you are adding the buttons, add the following:

1) At approximately line 5, you will see a lot of lines that say e.g. *Imports System.Data*.
Underneath *Imports System.ComponentModel*, type in *Imports System.Reflection*  <- without the asterisks

2) At approximately line 31, it will say '// Add Custom Module Level Variables Here **.
Directly underneath this line, type in *Private DBTVP As Object = Nothing*  <- without the asterisks

3) At approximately line 45, it will say '// End Custom Method Calls.
Directly underneath this line, copy and paste the following ...

   DBTVP = DBTVP_11cd1781_87df_4bef_b61b_2285b237d83e

The line underneath this should say End Sub and should be the existing text - you don't need to type this.

The long combination of numbers/letters above is the GUID of your tracker - To find this, go to Tools > Custom XML Editor >
Custom Controls. Your unique GUID will be displayed in the FormsID column.

Copy and paste this number after where it says DBTVP_ above, and replace the - with _.

4) After End Sub on approximately line 47, paste the following in one go (do not break it up - keep the tabs in place) ...

Private Sub btnRefresh_Click(ByVal Sender As Object, ByVal Args As System.EventArgs) Handles btnRefresh.Click
'// ** Place Event Handling Code Here **
      Â
       Dim methInfo As System.Reflection.MethodInfo = DBTVP.GetType().GetMethod("RefreshDB", _
                                   System.Reflection.BindingFlags.Instance _
                                Or System.Reflection.BindingFlags.NonPublic) Â
Â
If Not (methInfo Is Nothing) Then
Â
           methInfo.Invoke(DBTVP, Nothing)
Â
       End If
      Â
               End Sub
Â
Private Sub btnClear_Click(ByVal Sender As Object, ByVal Args As System.EventArgs) Handles btnClear.Click
'// ** Place Event Handling Code Here **
      Â
       Dim methInfo As System.Reflection.MethodInfo = DBTVP.GetType().GetMethod("ClearPrompts", _
                                   System.Reflection.BindingFlags.Instance _
                                Or System.Reflection.BindingFlags.NonPublic) Â
Â
If Not (methInfo Is Nothing) Then
Â
           methInfo.Invoke(DBTVP, Nothing)
Â
       End If
      Â
               End Sub

5) If you have done all of the above correctly, the next line should read *Sub DestroyCustomCode()*.

6) Save everything, exit customisation, exit the tracker/dashboard, re-open it, and you should now have one button the acts as a Refresh button and one button that acts as a Clear button.

Please let me know how you get on.

When in doubt, put tracing on and hit the buttons to see what BO methods are called (as well as any arguments they may require for a BAQ forced refresh).

Then add your custom button controls, use the wizard to add the basic button press/mouse click event triggered sub and within those subs add the BO method invoking code you just discovered by tracing.

Then add your custom button controls, use the wizard to add the basic
button press/mouse click event triggered sub and within those subs add
the BO method invoking code you just discovered by tracing.

Sorry Chris, I don't have any idea how to add a 2nd set of those
buttons.

Lynn

And the Refresh button always refreshes the data in the dashboard.

users for most of my dashboards. For some dashboards, the dataset will
be too large and if the user presses "Refresh All" in error, they will
be waiting a very long time since some people are using old computers
and they are in other buildings in other cities very far from the
server. For those people who really do want to see the entire dataset
with no filters, they simply need to press 2 buttons, CLEAR & REFRESH in
order to REFRESH ALL.

I'm on 8.03.404.

unlike the on-line help, I rarely find errors in the AnswerBooks.

However, this one has more customization on the tracker & I'd prefer to
not have to re-create it.
