Vantage 9 Blank Title 65433

The majority of issues we have run into during the E9 implementation have come from those areas which changed the most, financials and serialization.
Â
The 504 Service Pack (503B is the current release) is expected to be released on June 19th, assuming it passes QA. This release will address the following highlighted issues:
Â
Journal Entry - Paste/Edit does not validate GL accounts until you go to post. Epicor is changing the validation at the time of the paste so you don't end up pasting a lot of journal entries that you would have to go back and delete one at a time
Â
Alternate Bill To invoices were displaying blank (this was resolved through a patch as well)
Â
Periodic Posting Transactions were not displaying in Journal Tracker and WIP Reconcilation reports
Â
Serialization -
Â
Receipt entry does not enforce entering serial numbers for serialized parts. This is not due to be fixed until 505 service pack in September so you have to write a BPM to address this

We are receiving a Unit of Measure error when processing serialized parts through Inspection Processing. I was given a patch to try and it made some difference (before you would get an error based on the number of parts you were trying to pass/fail now it only pops up once)
Â
The other issue is that you get a warning when you click on the serial numbers button saying the transaction quantity does not match the number of serial numbers. This seems to be a message that is just in the wrong place. Once the Serial Part screen opens and it shows you the correct number of serial numbers the message goes away. You are able to get by these errors but they are a nuisance

Does anyone know where (or if), Epicor is keeping information about
Vantage 9 on their website?

Chris
I had posted a question about version 9 on here once recently and go
little to no response. With many big/good users here that would lead me
to believe one of two things. They haven't done much with 9 outside of
what's been done in house, or they had the people that are testing it
keep a tight lip...With how slow 405 has come out and a 406 in the works
I'm leaning towards the first one, but I could be wrong.

I'd be leaning toward the second one. I'm sure that Epicor 9 (our previous
CAM called it that anyway) will be featured in someway at this year's
Perspectives. I would think that they'll want to say that it's in Beta if
not full release by then.

I would guess that the timing of .405 probably has a lot to do with the
amount of work going into E9 - that and they're still maintaining 8.00...

'With how slow 405 has come out'...

It's out ?, can't see it as a download yet, where did you get it
from ?.

To be honest the current release is so horrendously buggy that even
if v9 comes out as planned (I was told it should be released to us
all very early next year) I'll wait at least a year before even
thinking about using it in a productino environment !.

It's not out yet but our current CAM said it should be next week around June
10th or 11th.

Mark W.
They like to spin us a line don't they, I was recently promised that
405 was to be released on the 30th June...

Anyone who is currently using 8.03.404b, has been using 8 for a while, and chooses to deploy 9 within a year of its release is certifiable
By using 8, I mean actually deals with the people using 8 on a daily basis, not a guy with CIO or some other acronym near his name.

I wonder if this is the release that implements the Browser-Based client
cited in the ICE 2.0 press release back in February?

Yes it is.

I disagree, I have been running 8.03 and now 8.03.400 for many
months, and find i have more no bugs or issues than as V6. I use
nearly every module epicor has for Vantage.

I don't know what Vantage.... (or DISAD-vantage, as they've nicknamed it here since upgrading) you are using, but every single screen, every tiny piece of information is scattered from 1 location in 6.1 to spending several minutes finding it in 404b, from 1 click to 4 clicks. My people haven't came up with one single positive light on 8.03.404b (from 6.1). It obsolutely makes our jobs harder. As we are into it 2 weeks now, there are still people begging to go back to 6.1 (if there was a conversion back... we would). If Epicor doesn't change it's course (and the icing on the cake will be dumping Progress for Microsoft's SQL), making more complicated software with options, features, neato gadgets and customisability, if that's even a word, we will be forced to seek simpler, easier solution.
whew... sorry Peter, my frustration is not directed at you. Off my soapbox so I'm takin my ball and goin' home.

Yes, our users wanted the old system back (non-Vantage green screen
conversational mode program run via a terminal emulator - ugh) for about 2
months until they learned to do things the "new way". Today we're on version
404B and there's no way any of them would go back.

(BTW, If a task is taking too many clicks, post a question here to the group
to see how others have reduced the number of clicks required for a
particular task. There may be a better way to do what they are trying to
do.)

With that said I completely agree that Epicor has placed a lot of effort
into the technology and has been losing ground on the core application -
Enterprise Resource Planning. I hope that some of the really bright people
on this list can get the ear of Epicor during the beta of E9 to get the
functions that companies really need to have working properly in order to
run their businesses: functions like scheduling, material planning, and
others mentioned often on this list.

When a software company is in the Beta testing phase, it means
they're in the process of trying to get the 'current' features and
functionality working. These 'current' features were decided upon
long ago.

Any desired features from users doing the beta testing of V9 will be
lucky to find thier way into V10. Luckily, there are enough dots,
numbers, and letters (i.e.:8.03.305K) available for to 'manage' the
eventual issues in V9.0.

With released quality/functonality/inherently flawed paradigms of v8.03.404 being this bad - they would have to pay me the equivalent we paid them over the last year to participate in a beta.

Fix 8... Don't create an even more convoluted 9 (as it WILL be - to make it marketable).

True, but I'm not looking for new features. I want to see the current state
of Vantage get some attention because...

Frankly, I think it would be well worth it to pay a person like you to get
the POW (Plossl, Orlicky, Wight) and JIT/TOC/Lean concepts firmly into
Vantage. Having a web interface would make the software more available to
lower-end PCs and remote users but what's the point of a great user
interface if the basics of the backend are broken?

Mark,
While testing v8 I could see that we would need to train people to do
things the "new way". Having time to figure this out myself is a
problem. Could you share some of your experiences with the specific
work habits people needed to change?

We have just decided to upgrade from version 6.1 to version 9. We chose version 9 over 8 because of some features that are not available in 8.

Does anybody know of any issues we should be aware of in version 9?

Are there any Gotha's we should be looking for in this upgrade?

Any suggestions would be helpful!

Thanks,
Jasper
