Receipts seem to be working in Patch 800.

We have a fundamental problem with how the Job Entry tree view differs from the others. For example, if you click on a line in the PO Entry tree, the line shows on the right in the Detail Tab. And in the List Tab, all lines are shown in a grid for update. But not Job Entry where if you click on an assembly on the left, the first child of the assembly appears on the right. We've had 4 people all come to the same conclusion independently of each other -- if you want to update on the right, you'll update the child where you'll think you're updating the parent -- dangerous.

Whether you're live on Vantage 8 or still testing it, please tell me what you think. Thanks.

Chris,

I would reply if I could after applying the 711 hot fix a, then the 711 hot
fix b patches my job entry just says "retrieving Data......" and won't load
any jobs. (1334666)

Also now the BIN tab and LOT tab under part tracker bring up all kinds of
inventory for other items. Prior to the patch BIN tab worked and the LOT tab
displayed nothing. (1334682)

Chris,

We have v711a installed and it performs as you describe. We've just started
training, so our users hadn't found and complained about that yet. I've
added it to a list of user interface bugs that I plan on submitting to
support in the next week or so.

By the way, anyone with 711a or 711b having trouble pulling up existing
receipts in Receipt Entry or Receipt Tracker? We can select packing slips
from the search window, but then no data populates on the entry or tracker
screens.

We've had problems with almost every tracker the first time we use it. In
Patch 711, we can't even see PO's in the Supplier Tracker.

I don't think Epicor has a QA department. And whoever decided on GA has put
Epicor at risk. They're buried with the live customer's needs.

Chris,

I just checked and we don't have a problem seeing PO's in the supplier
tracker in v711a.

Can you check pulling up existing receipts in Receipt Entry or Receipt
Tracker? We can select packing slips from the search window, but then no
data populates on the entry or tracker screens. I know this worked with
v704 (not sure when it stopped working).

Chris,

I'm rolling it out this month for several users to test. But in just demoing
Vantage it's so slow even with forms cached if you select a list of parts to
bring back to part tracker then try to cycle thru them and look at their
time phase screens your constantly waiting for the bottom of the screen to
stop saying "Retrieving Data......" Then before your done you will get one
to hang and not finish "Retrieving Data....." then I'm back to killing the
process on the server.

I can't believe anyone is running 8.0 live and happy with the results.

Patrick

We are currently in the process of implementing Vantage 8. When we got
the suggested hardware specs for the server (dual-processor, RAID 10,
2GB+ RAM) we thought it to be overkill for the application. It isn't.
On the client side, the minimum hardware configuration we find to be
acceptable to run the client (not in terminal server) is PIV 2.6 Ghz,
1GB RAM.

I think that our biggest frustration is not really that V8 is still in
beta. After all if our current ERP system needed immediate replacement,
we could have done V6. The biggest problem we having is figuring out
what Epicor's timetable is for fixing quality issues; it has made it
extremely difficult for us to schedule the roll-out in any meaningful way.

If any one has any insights into how to manage the implementation in the
face of this uncertainty, I would really appreciate hearing them.

You just hit my button.... now I'm going to rant.

We argued quite strongly to Epicor in January that the product wasn't ready
for GA. We couldn't even open two of our jobs and others took over 5
minutes. How can it go GA? PO Search was so buggy to be useless.

We suggested to share bugs among the beta clients -- knowing this would be
less work for us and them. Answer: no. So we're doing it anyway on this
forum for all to see. How many of their competitors can see this?

We were told by Mark Pladson: "Patch 700 will have the schema change to
speed up Job Entry." Now, how would you interpret that statement? Yes, the
schema change presumably was there but we didn't get the performance
enhancement until Patch 708 -- two months later.

We keep an Issue Log that has all incidents we've reported including the
Patch level for their resolution. We recently had no critical issues for the
first time. But Patrick Winter discovered a client taking control of the
server. And our accounting person discovered critical issues in some of the
other trackers that I'll test for the Patch 712 issue log.

So I can't help you for I have absolutely no idea when this product will be
ready.

We have been running on 8.0 Since January. Yes it had its issue in
the beginning but since the 7xx patch level things have been much
better. We are currently on the 711a patch and are having minor
issues. None of which has to do with speed or data integrity on
Epicors part.

We are more than happy with what it has brought to the company and
the flexibility it has given us. We no longer have to tell users
that Vantage cannot do what they are asking because we can make the
customizations needed internally. We have put in sequential
numbering for lot numbers and project numbers using the .NET code
along with many other choice customizations.

We are running on a Linux server with 2.8 Xeon processor at RAID 10
with 15K RPM drives. Clients are all running Windows XP Minimum
2.4Gb and 1Gb Memory. Our data collection machines are 1.8Gb with
512Mb Memory. We have 10 users running over a T1 line which is a
lot quicker than having them go through Terminal Server/Citrix.

I guess you could say we satisfied with the product and would not
even think of going back.

Erica,

It is encouraging to find out that you are enjoying succes with 8.0. Do
you have any advice to offer on dealing with "quirks" during
implementation?

For example, from our own experience, we use standard costing.
Additionally, our machines take various crew sizes from less than a
person to multiple people. When we began trying to model our products
to get a sense of how to "do" costing, we realized that crew size was
applied to burden in the costing workbench, but not applied to burden
when actual time was punched. Thus a variance was always generated.
Clearly, this is a bug; it should work the same way in both cases.
However, it took three weeks to get an answer from Epicor about how it
would be fixed (i.e. whether crew size would apply to burden or not in
all cases.) Consequently, our implementation schedule was thrown off by
three weeks while we waited for response. We have dozens of other
similar examples.

While this example may not apply to you, I am sure that you must have
encountered problems such as this if you started deployment in January.
How did you handle them?

Geordie,

We also use standard costing and haven't come across any issues with
it. We do you the crew size in one of our locations and had not
noticed any costing issue. Our crew size changes though are always
1 or less. I know that recently in the 709 patch Epicor changed
what is affected by the crew size. Only labor scheduling resources
are to be effected by it. We did see reporting issues but the
standard costs were coming out fine. Your actual costs are affected
by how you have your Resource Groups set up. You have 3 choices on
how cost is spread out for the resource group. Are you making use
of this?

As far as getting a response from Epicor we have been fortunate in
getting responses for any critical issue to us. There are a few
minor issues still out there that we are waiting to be fixed, but
nothing preventing us from operating.

Erica,

Thanks for the insight; patch 709 did indeed fix our issue--it was
merely an example. Is there some way you interact with Epicor to get
special attention to your "critical" issues?

Geordie,

We have used Vantage since 1996. As long as we expressed an issue
was critical to where it might shut down production or some area of
our business they have addressed them in a timely manner.

Lucky you... Normaly I get.."Its in development"....

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
Erica,

I do see the flexibility in the new interface. It's nice to hear someone
having great success.
How are you securing the epicor shared folder on our Linux server.
Installation instruction leave us with Microsoft Server leaving the EPICOR
folder set to EVERYONE with FULL CONTROL, that's a little scary for me.

Subject: [Vantage] Re: Vantage 8 Tree Views

We have been running on 8.0 Since January. Yes it had its issue in the
beginning but since the 7xx patch level things have been much better. We
are currently on the 711a patch and are having minor issues. None of which
has to do with speed or data integrity on Epicors part.

We are more than happy with what it has brought to the company and the
flexibility it has given us. We no longer have to tell users that Vantage
cannot do what they are asking because we can make the customizations needed
internally. We have put in sequential numbering for lot numbers and project
numbers using the .NET code along with many other choice customizations.

We are running on a Linux server with 2.8 Xeon processor at RAID 10 with 15K
RPM drives. Clients are all running Windows XP Minimum 2.4Gb and 1Gb
Memory. Our data collection machines are 1.8Gb with 512Mb Memory. We have
10 users running over a T1 line which is a lot quicker than having them go
through Terminal Server/Citrix.

I guess you could say we satisfied with the product and would not even think
of going back.
