Vantage 8.03 - user permission management

It sounds like security/permission management in v8 is similar to v6 -
I was afraid of that.

So all security in v8 is controlled by access to menu's as in v6.1?

Also, how do I know what permissions a "group" has throughout the
system without checking EVERY menu in Vantage?

Thanks,

Bill

I am coming from a Syteline ERP implemenation and not completely up-to-
speed yet on how Vantage security/permissions are managed in v8.03.
The only limited experience I have had is with Vantage v6.1 and found
the management of user permissions sadly lacking unless I am completely
missing something.

Note: In Syteline, out-of-the-box there was predetermined functions(ie
Accounts Payable) AND functional "groups" (ie Payroll Manager). Each
functional group would have default access to a number of functions.
Of course, each user account could be fine tuned to include/exclude any
function. I could also "copy" a set of permissions from user to user
and easily run a report to see what functions a particular user had
access to.

1) In a nutshell, is there any way to report on a user or group to
determine what Vantage modules or functions they have access to?

2) Once I configure a particular user's access permissions, can
I "copy" those permissions to another user (could have many users
needing the same permissions)?

Thanks in advance...

You can create Security Groups for the functional areas (AP, Shipping &
Receiving, Procurement, etc). Then you assign your users to these
groups. In Menu Security, you limit the access by the group instead of
the user. So you don't have to "copy" per se but you can just assign a
user to any number of Security Groups and each Security Group can have
any number of users. There are separate rolls for Payroll Manager and
Security Manager. System Manager has access to everything except
Payroll Class maintenance. You need to be Payroll Manager to have
access to the Payroll Class maintenance and some functionality such as
reindexing the database.

Subject: [Vantage] Vantage 8.03 - user permission management

Bill
