Every time someone gives input on ver. 8.0 I feel like a hero for
telling our people to hold off on this upgrade. I can just hear the
moans and groans on a daily basis lamenting repeatedly, "why did YOU buy
this piece of crap". They are an impatient lot. Let me know when it's
safe to go into the water.
Meanwhile, we'll continue working away with ver. 6.1.

Subject: [Vantage] Re: Vantage 8.00.806 Load Times
Vantage version:
8.00.806 on Microsoft SQL-Server (see specific note below about
database)
Server:
Compaq DL 580 G3
Quad Xeon 3.33 Hyper-threaded (so view as 8 processors in Task Manager)
Memory: 8Go Hard Drives: 15000 RPM
Workstations:
Dell 3.2Ghz Memory: 1Go
Here we go...
Login Time: 0:05.
Order Entry: 1st time 0:24, 2nd 0:03s.
Job Entry: 1st time 0:31, 2nd 0:05s.
Job Tracker: 1st time 1:50 (yes, 110 seconds...), 2nd time 0:04.
Part Tracker: 1st time 0:43, 2nd time 0:04.
Some explanations:
We made the same tests on 2 different workstations and I took the
shortest time but the average gap between the 2 workstations was only
about 1 second for each test. It would be interesting to indicate
which database is used. In our case it's Microsoft SQL-Server. It's
important because, as you were probably aware, if you have chosen MS
SQL-Server then Vantage ERP will only use SQL-Server in order to
store or to retrieve data using ODBC link between Progress and MS
SQL-Server. That's why you will not find any Store Procedures or Views
in MS SQl-Server database related to Vantage ERP. All the business
code running on Progress Database even though you have chosen MS
Sql-server. It works but ... maybe this is the explanation of our
results...
Few words about memory cache (Tools/Options/General then "Memory
cache"): remember that you cannot load all forms in memory cache. Few
weeks ago I made some tests and the average (with 1Go workstation)
were about 5 forms in cache memory depending of the form because some
of them use "only" 30Mo of memory and some others a little bit more
than 100Mo. Obviously it depends of how many applications currently
running on your system (Outlook, Excel, Internet Explorer...).
