I'm a new user of Vantage, so I only know 8.0, but I do have some
wisdom I can share regarding speed issues. On the server, we went
with 4Gb of memory, which is a little over twice the size of our
database (We're running Vantage SQL). Otherwise, our server specs
are comparable to yours. With the clients, anything less than 1Gb is
considered unacceptable for 8.0. I bought all new clients for our
install last year with 512Kb. The system was virutally unusable for
our users, and we came from an ERP system that ran through terminal
emulation! The upgrade to 1Gb made all the difference in the world.
Could it be faster? Certainly, but that could be said about any
application. As far as the patch issue goes, release 807 was
released at the end of March. The change list was only 8 pages long.
By contrast, 806 was over 40 pages not including the interim
patches! To me, that means things are going great. IMO, the system
has been stable since we went live 7 months ago. It's hard to judge
the effectiveness based on how fast patches are released. Most are
minor fixes to individual modules.
Anyway, my $.02 for the day!
