Vantage 6.1 vs 8.0

I was extremely frustrated in the migration to 8 once Epicor made it
available to maintenance users, but now I can't really see going back
to 6.1. I do miss somethings with 6.1 as I basically managed that
version for 3 years and was extremely comfortable with it. I think the
biggest plunge is going to be the user interface and requiring users to
learn something new. Although the majority of Vantage 8 operates the
same as far as functionality, it looks different. And if your users
were/are anything like mine, they don't like to see changes. If you
change a purple background to blue they complain (GRIN)

We are seeking input regarding the ins and outs of upgrading from 6.1
to 8.0. Early on there seemed to be lots of reasons NOT to take the
plunge. Now I notice that many topics in the forum reference 8.0.

We'd welcome any thoughts and/or experiences with the upgrade or

It seems to me that some areas of 8.0 are not as flexible as 6.1. A couple
of things come to mind. Serial numbers and labor edit. In 6.1 you could
generate any amount of serial numbers on the job up to the job quantity.
8.0 must generate the entire job quantity of serial numbers exactly. This
does not allow for partial shipments. It happens that part of a job is
completed and ready to ship and only need to generate part of the serial
numbers, but 8.0 forces that all serial numbers be generated even if parts
are not complete. Labor edit is another area if have seen. in 6.1 was
flexible to allow labor edit entries on jobs. 8.0 once payroll is run,
labor edit entries are no longer allowed. We have been on 8.03 for about a
month and are finding it not as flexible as 6.1 in some areas. Also number
of clicks required to perform same functions has increased and search
functions seem more cumbersome.

Just my opinion

Thanks Mike, both of those points are important. Especially the s/n

Past pattern has been for new releases to come out a month or so prior to Perspectives. Not to say they will still do this but it has seemed there was pressure to have it ready for "the show".

I remember hearing someone saying 18 months at last perspectives. If
they are on that time table, that would put it still over a year away. I
believe there may still be an interim 8.05 on the board, but I can't
remember.

Past pattern has been for new releases to come out a month or so prior
to Perspectives. Not to say they will still do this but it has seemed
there was pressure to have it ready for "the show".

There is no schedule for release. I would have to go back to my
perspectives stuff to see if I can find it but I am willing to bet it's
at least another year away yet.

s/n's in 9.0 are supposed to be enhanced, greatly.

Thanks Mike, both of those points are important. Especially the s/n
issue-- may be a showstopper for us.
