Vantage 6.1 - shipping labels

We do all of our shipping labels and packing slips (Vantage 6.1) with
Access. We've been doing it that way for almost three years now and it
works very well. If you want to see what we've got give us a call at
816-318-8000 and ask for Greg Stewart (IT Manager) or myself.

Maybe I can rephrase my request for help...

Our Syteline ERP plant is using my custom Progress application to
automate all shipping paperwork.
Our Vantage ERP plant is printing packing slips from Vantage and
bar-coded shipping labels manually with a third party label design
software package - Label Matrix.
We need a solution to integrate and automate packing slips and/or
shipping labels in Vantage 6.1. The out-of-the-box functionality does
not allow for multiple labels formats based on customer or ship-to.

Does anyone know of alternatives or have a solution to share($$)?

Or is everyone using vanilla Vantage to print packing slips and
shipping labels?

Thanks in advance.

Sorry if this issue/s (packing slip and labels) has been beaten to
death but I have taken over the IT duties of a company and am new to
Vantage 6.1.

Regarding the Vantage "Shipping Label" function - can a
different/unique label/report be defined for each customer or ship to?

If the answer is no, then I have a LONG road ahead of me. Can anyone
offer a good solution for the management of packing slips and shipping
labels?

Thanks in advance...

Note: I have built a custom application for these functions in another
ERP package (Syteline) but don't want to start from scratch if I don't
have to. Also, we have started the implementation of Vantage 8.03 (6
months yet to go) so I cannot justify an expensive solution.

Well.... It does, but it's a pain in the butt. You have to go to the
report style and change it for each style of label and then go to the
customer shipment and print the label/packer.

What I did for one customer was include a Character01 field on the
customer and on the ship to which held the label code. Then I modified
the label to use an ODBC connection to get the code and have the label
react by band to the code. Hide the band if the Code <> X.

It becomes much easier with V8.xx because you can change report style at
the point of print.

You can use Crystal and subreports to generate ship-to specific label formats. Crystal isn't as easy to work with (from a barcoding perspective) as a Label Matrix, Bartender, etc. But it works.
