Vantage 6.1 Running on Windows 2003 Server

Go to Microsoft.com Downloads, enter Remote Desktop and search. The download
says win2003 but actually this client portion of the remote desktop can be
installed in a win95 (?), win 98, 2000, 2003, and XP (it comes with it). It
works with Terminal Services, so the server to connect to has to have TS
enabled.

You can download and install remote desktop in a 2000 client. I have it.

I take it you are running XP on the desktop?
2000 does not have remote desktop

We are currently upgrading from version 5.2 to version 6.1 and I am
trying to determine if I should stay with Windows 2000 or put
Windows 2003 on the vantage server. The upgrade will be put on a new
HP Server with dual 3.0 ghz Xeon processors and 2 to 4 GB of Ram. We
have approximately 35 users.

One of my concerns is that I am running 4 servers in my domain, and
the remaining 3 of them would be running Windows 2000 Server (2 of
them Domain Controllers)and want to ensure that I am not going to
run into any conflicts between these servers and the new Vantage
server running Windows 2003 Server.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks,
We are running 5.2 on an HP dual 3.06 GHz, 2 GB RAM, server 2003
machine. We have two other servers running 2000 server, both domain
controllers. Sounds a lot like what are going to do except you are
going to 6.1. We have 30 users.

So far we have had no problems with this set-up. When we went to
5.2 in December we bought the new server listed above.

This helps me out too. I just put in a new server with Server 2003 on it.
Since 5.2 - 6.1 all run the same version of Progress they should all run OK.

Put in a new Dell Server Dual XEON's in Feb of this year and we are
having less problems running it on Windows 2003 than we did when it
was on our NT4 server

I say go for it
W2K3 looks like the best thing Micro$oft has done in years!
And one feature that is SO Nice is the remote desktop
I have a W2K Professional box and I have the remote desktop client
software installed, I can run everything on the server I need to from
my desk. Its great
Isn't remote desktop just a version of VNC?

Nope. The RDC protocol that MS has embedded in their code is a derivative
of Citrix's ICA software. VNC is the open source initiative to provide
similar functionality.

Speaking of remote desktop.
We also use remote desktop in our conference room with a projector. When you
want to run a meeting, PowerPoint, etc... Go to the conference room then use
remote desktop to connect back the meeting chairpersons client. You don't
need extra copies of Cad, PowerPoint, Vantage, etc... Installed in the
conference room, you don't have to move files to a shared folder to make
them available for the meeting. It really works great this way.

I have a W2K Professional box and I have the remote desktop client
software installed, I can run everything on the server I need to from
my desk. Its great
