Vantage 5/Merant 3.5

The settings on the local OBDC-DSN have to read tables uncommitted as well.
Otherwise, you will lock up a lot of tables and generate endless errors on
vantage (in case you have not set this yet).

If you have the user "Import" the information each time (just for the Part
table for instance), then it seems to work. It won't "Link" is the problem.
Another option is the "auto export" using a simple progress program. Then
you can link in Access to the .csv file. But then the data's not quite
"fresh".

That was it exactly. So it doesn't work in 3.5 either? Guess we will have
to
look for some other way of getting the information.

Thanks all!

Just a quick backstory here, it seems that the Merant 3.6 driver doesn't
work with Access 97, although it will work with 2000. In any case, out
standard here is 97, so we have to try and find some other way of
implementing ODBC.

So, I am trying to set up the Merant 3.5 driver to work with Vantage 5.0.
Would like to talk to anyone else using this setup to see how they did it
and how well it works (if at all).

Brian,

We are using Merant 3.6 with Vantage 5.0 and Access 97. It does
work. What problems are you experiencing?

I guess I should not have said that it doesn't work. Its more that there are
some issues where the field length gets set to a value larger than Access 97
can handle. Thus, it doesn't work for our purposes. From what I was told, it
has something to do with the Merant 3.6 driver. That's why I wanted to try
the 3.5 driver instead.

I know there are some patches that resolve some of the problems. We went
through this a couple of months ago and the patches fixed some of the
errors. However, according to Epicor, our situation is not unique and what
we are experiencing is a know issue when using Access 97.

Brian,
We are using Merant 3.5. I use it fine with Access 2000. I tried getting one user up on Access 97 and we ran into troubles on certain tables, so I gave up. I know that doesn't help you, but going to 3.5 may not be the answer. It seems to me that the PartDescription in particular gives Access 97 trouble, even if the field has been shortened to 250 characters. You can Import that field, but not link to it. Other tables work fine.
