Vantage 5.20.321

Have you considered A/R accounts? We do this for active employees when they
owe us things other than insurance, and the minute someone goes on COBRA for
insurance, we set it up as a receivable when we process the insurance bill
and credit their account when they make a payment. You would still have to
manually analyze the A/R accounts every month (or some other frequency), but
most companies do a regular analysis of their balance sheet accounts as they
review things for month end closings anyway.

Creative solution. Deduction reports by payment type show what has been
deducted from paychecks. Problem is when people ARE NOT on the payroll, and
have missed a payment. We keep manual spreadsheets to record the skipped
payment. Can be a real hassle to unravel and balance when several people
have been off work.

Would love to hear other folks' solutions.

Just wanted to get some insight from the group. We have a bunch of bean
counters up here that are using the vendor file to keep up with our
insurance. They are basically running the deductions like normal in payroll
then it all piles up in an account. They deplete this by issuing manual
checks to the "vendor". This enables them to run reports and keep up with
who payed what etc. We didn't know this was happening until it was already
done. Isn't there a better way of keeping up with this in Vantage. My
concern is the Vendor file is easily accessed by report builder and any
novice user could bang out a report of everyone's cafeteria plan. Any
suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi all:
I know I read about this some time ago, but can't find it now.

Was there something about the -N parameter that helped with licenses being held and not refreshed on the server
(WIN2000). I have plenty of licenses, but alot of them are either used up by the server, or not being refreshed. I even have a block of #'s that don't show up.

I don't want to have to reboot the server whenever this happens.

Thanks!

Julie,
From time to time, Vantage "eats" a license. If you look at your
connected users panel, and you
see a userID that is attached to a CON device........This license is used by
the system. You need to
contact epicor and get a procedure that frees that license because it is
going against your license
count. I got the procedure a couple of weeks ago after I realized that I
had as many as 8 licenses
held by the system. I was wondering why I was always running out of
licenses.

Good luck!

I will call and get that procedure from Epicor right away.

Do you know who you talked to about that procedure, or any other specifics?

I just called Epicor and they said they aren't familiar with that procedure - unless it was a custom program?

Hi all:
I know I read about this some time ago, but can't find it now.

Was there something about the -N parameter that helped with licenses
being
held and not refreshed on the server
(WIN2000). I have plenty of licenses, but alot of them are either
used up
by the server, or not being refreshed. I even have a block of #'s
that
don't show up.

I don't want to have to reboot the server whenever this happens.

Dina,

Just got off the phone with Matthew Cutter at Epicor tech support. I have
had the same 3 CON devices in promon you mentioned ever since I started
here. I thought the nbr of free licenses looked OK, but wanted to be sure.
He said the 2 apw and the biw are Progress processes that need to be there -
being used by the system.

Julie,
From time to time, Vantage "eats" a license. If you look at your
connected users panel, and you
see a userID that is attached to a CON device........This license is
used by
the system. You need to
contact epicor and get a procedure that frees that license because it
is
going against your license

Gary,
We are on V5.1.132. In the CONNECTED USER interface
SystemManagement/Utilities/Connected Users...
My APW and BIW do not have ANY entries in the device column. The entries
are there but no device
type appears. What I am talking about are CON device entries with a UserID
entered. (I have one
right now that needs to be cleared). These are sessions that Vantage has
tied up. They can only be
freed by a re-boot or by running the ResetLic.r program.
If I look at PROMON...I do not see the problem entry, but they are easily
identified in the ConnectedUser
panel.

This is an on-going problem, and it DOES eat up a Vantage login.
Resetlic.r only works on V5.1 and V5.2. We are on V6.0 now, and are
still having this problem. Tech Support told me that Development
dosen't want another "resetlic.r" program released because it resets all
your licensed connections, and that would allow twice the number of
Vantage logins.

Virginia in tech support is working on this to try to fix it.

type appears. What I am talking about are CON device entries with a
UserID
entered. (I have one
right now that needs to be cleared). These are sessions that Vantage
has
tied up. They can only be
freed by a re-boot or by running the ResetLic.r program.
If I look at PROMON...I do not see the problem entry, but they are
easily
identified in the ConnectedUser
panel.

We had to re-boot our server today at noon b/c of a new hardware
installation.

Now, less than 3 hours later, we have 18 office users logged in & 11 data
collection users logged in (that's how many licenses we have), we also have
4 entries without any userid or device (2-apw, 1-wdog, 1-biw), in addition,
we have 10 entries with the device of CON:, with no userid. So, here
anyway, these entries are there but they are definitely not eating a vantage
license since we still have our maximum # of users logged into the system -
I have no idea why they are there, but they have always been in varying
amounts and they don't seem to hurt anything...

[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
I just want to know what the WDOG entry is...I've always wondered, but
forget to ask when I have one of the support people on the phone.

I do know that on the CON: type SERV you will have one of those for every 4
users that is connected.

Dina
you should NOT have them. These are licenses that are held by your
system
and they count against your license count. We have 60 office users
licenses
and I was wondering why I could only get 52 individuals into the system.
Someone on Vantage Groups clued me in that this was a problem.
The ResetLic.r program frees these licenses. Epicor states that all
users
should be out of the system when you run the program tho.
I've been running from home when I only have a few data collection users
logged in.

FYI - Matthew Cutter emailed me the following re this thread: "There is a
RESETLIC fix program, but only for previous versions of Vantage. However,
there is a different licensing problem for VN 5.20 and VN 6.00. While we
have not been able to duplicate the situation, we have been able to gather
enough symptoms to generate a fix program. The difficulty is that we cannot
test it, since we have not duplicated the problem here."

I regularly ran the utility with all our users in Vantage. It always
worked fine.

Dina
you should NOT have them.
I've been running from home when I only have a few data collection users
logged in.

I checked that and I have 10 that are marked that way!
I will call and get that procedure from Epicor right away.

Thanks!

Julie,
From time to time, Vantage "eats" a license. If you look at your
connected users panel, and you
see a userID that is attached to a CON device........This license is
used by
the system. You need to
contact epicor and get a procedure that frees that license because it
is
going against your license
count. I got the procedure a couple of weeks ago after I realized
that I
had as many as 8 licenses
held by the system. I was wondering why I was always running out of
licenses.

Good luck!
