Right now we are marking all of our sales orders as Make Direct although some may be pulled from stock. I noticed that for orders that are marked make direct there is no demand in the part tracker. Once finished, we receive all MFG receipts to Inventory. We drop it in a Warehouse called shipping so that it can be batched together with the rest of the order or other orders to save on shipping to the customer. We don't want to leave the work orders open for months. So for clarity, we receive everything from MFG to STK and close the work order.
If we dont mark the releases as make direct then we can't link a sales order to a job and so we would have to make everything to stock. MFG suggestions are also not generated.
If we do mark everything as make direct then it is very possible that we receive a qty of say 500 to stock from mfg. Given that the work order was for a sales order, the sales person looks at Part Tracker and all they see is a qty available of 500 with no demand. In their view, its ok to sell those 500 although that 500 is for a Sales Order marked as Make Direct.
Anyone have any guidance?
