V 6.1 crystal 8.5

This is a though one I was able to have multiple versions of crystal on my
system no problem which has its pro's and con's however a college of mine
had to uninstall prior version before upgrading.
Crystal REPORTS are not backwards compatible so once you convert to a higher
version you are kind of stuck at the version. Important Note, FORMS must be
edited in the appropriate version of crystal for your version of Vantage
because of the DLL's!

Have Fun.

So when you edit a form or a report always make a work in process COPY so
you can go back to the old one.

I tried a search as well but found nothing about uninstalling 7.0 first. Personally I did have an issue once upgrading from 8.0 to 8.5 then wanting to go back to 8.0 and it would not uninstall a lot of .dll files so I ended up with a hybrid environment that would not work with Vantage. But this was related to the move from Vantage 4.0 to 5.2. It was a huge mess (with a lot of registery hacking) but only because I wanted to retreat to an older version.

My hunch it a straight upgrade would be fine and all the "latest" .dlls woul overlay any older with the same name. If 7.0 has the report distribution wizard and you use it you will need to download and install the add-in for 8.5 because it is not standard (and is going away in later versions).

Depending on where you reports are stored they should be fine whther you uninstall & install or just upgrade. All of our Vantage related reports are in the "Userform" folder and not in any folder the Crystal upgrade would touch. However the reports themselves woud all need to be opened (and fixed as needed) and re-saved as 8.5 in order to work with Vantage 6.1 since the Crystal components installed for clients are 8.5 level. For a migration to 6.1 they woudl also need to refer to the new mfgwrk61 folder for DBF files (for the standard reports) so they would need to be touched anyway.
