We are looking at a couple of options for scheduling and following through on completion of tooling PMs (Preventative Maintenance) in Epicor. One of the options is to use the Maintenance Module. I’m wondering if anyone has used the Maintenance Module in a similar way to trigger and track PMs for tooling. If so, what were the pros and cons of setting up and using the Maintenance Module for this?
When I say tooling I mean part-specific dies and molds for the most part. Currently this type of tooling is set up as non-inventory parts in the part master. There is a separate part record that we call a ‘UTool’ which is used to track the tool usage count - this is done by backfilling the UTool when quantities are reported to a job.
It seems to me as though all our tools would need to be added to the Maintenance Module as ‘equipment’. We would then have to find a way to tie the UTool usage count to the meter function in order to trigger a PM after a pre-defined number of hits/shots. The maintenance team would also need to maintain and report to jobs in the Maintenance Module, which they don’t do today. However, this would give us better visibility into tooling PM scheduling and completion.
We are currently on E9, but we’re going to E10 within 6-9 months.
Is anyone else handling tooling PMs using the Maintenance Module? If so, how has it worked for you?
Thanks for any input you can provide,
Carl
