Users kicked out of Vantage 6.1

I seem to get kicked out during the printing process. May print several job
travelers and pick lists with no problem, then get kicked out several times
in a row.

Did any of this occur immediatly after an upgrade or patch of
Vantage? We just upgraded to version 6.1. Employees on the local
network are not having the problems. The folks that are having
problems are on a separate network and in addition were just moved
from one floor to another. Epicor Tech support sent me a document
with lots of stuff to try but nothing has worked. Sometimes the
employees getting kicked off after hours of working in Vantage and
sometimes for only 1 to 2 minutes. Really weird.

Most of what I have read on the Progress website for this error
points to network issues. Our network expert is now working on this
issue.

Does anyone know what causes users to be kicked out of vantage or
plant floor? I know that if you try to access the same file or record
you will be given the option of waiting or not for the record to be
available. I have some users just trying to print a invoice or
purchase order that get kicked out. Epicor say's it my network
causing the issue. I can use promon to disconnect the users if the
seat gets locked but this can't be normal or is it? Any advice would
be welcome.

If you have Windows XP workstations -- make sure that they are
in "Classic View", or if they are operating in other scenarios, the
kicking out can begin to appear anywhere within the users on Vista,
even at non-XP workstations when this occurs.

Something we had, and users may change that view periodically, thereby
causing it to re-appear. Have you done an eportal search
on "client", "error" to see if anything comes up?

We are having this problem at all of our sites now, too. It acts and
appears in the log file as if the users are ending the Vantage task in
Task Manager. The screens immediately disappear and the log file says
abnormal termination (794).
We're on XP Pro SP2 and have the latest Trend anti-virus on all of the
clients. The biggest problem is that it is so random. We have not
seen any patterns. We are thinking about getting the BlackBox
software from the ftp site and using that.

We are on version 5.2 so I'm not sure if this applies - BUT...

When we got a new server and re-installed 5.2 on it, we had problems of
users randomly getting kicked out of vantage. It turned out that we needed
progress hotfix SP9 installed. We got it from epicor and installed it and
the problem went away.

Progress Version should read: PROGRESS Version 9.1D0920 if hot fix applied.
We had to download HF91D0920.exe and install.

We have had similar issues in the past. The most recent was one of our
shops. It only has 6 data collection stations, but they were just dropping
off. Other network task were fine. Browsing the net, connecting to servers
for file sharing, etc. But Vantage would just lock up. We started
replacing network equipment and discovered it was a Fiber to UTP converter
going bad. I have seen the same situation when a switch was causing the
problem. The Progress client has to have a near perfect Network situation
to run. We have experienced the same problem with computers on a subnet
that are routed to the network that the server is sitting on. If you
experience even the smallest amount of latency the Progress client drops the
connection and Vantage locks up. Usually all this is followed by a Prowin32
error, but not always.

Most of what I have read on the Progress website for this error
