Upgrage from 8.305K to 8.408x advice

Blake,

I was ranting a bit more than I should have, they are working now, we
just had to change the way we use the 'Order Job Wizard'.

We had a customization created to streamline the process, which in turn
"fixed the issue".

Epicor never told us what was exactly happening only that it would be
corrected in 409.

Something to do with the configurators fighting for job numbers or
locking records????

They were able to reproduce the issue repeatedly, so they gave us a fix
number & said it would be in 409.

Our consultants created the processes using 'Job Entry' instead of the
'Order Job Wizard' which wasn't affected.

I can't say enough about those guys!

What's wrong with your configurators? Ours are working in 408B.

Just to reiterate what is common from the Group:

Test, test, test!

After you do the downgrade to the new version, there seems to always be
things that are "broken"...

We are waiting for 803.409, and I'm pretty sure that if & when we
finally get to install the patch, we'll be looking for the next one, to
fix that one.

It's all fun stuff & even though we rant, the patches have fixed quite a
bit of stuff for us.

803.408b just kicked us in the pants, when it broke our configurators.

Now of course we were suppose to have thoroughly tested to ensure we
were good, but apparently we didn't test every possibility.

I guess it's too much to ask that the code just get fixed, not
changed...

Subject: [Vantage] Upgrage from 8.305K to 8.408x advice

We are currently live on 8.305K which as we all know has some issues
fixed in later versions. We are now looking at upgrading to the latest
version of 8.408x.

Has anyone already done this and do you have any advice about things to
look out for and any specific tips that would help us before, during and
after the upgrade.

Thanks in advance for your help.

We came from 305k to 405 and have since then upgraded to 407.

We built a test server which mirrored out production environment and then
upgraded to 405. at this point we then did extensive testing. This was
tricky because the 4XX series uses a different runtime and crystal. In order
for us to do the testing we had to have both the live version and the test
version on basically every machine. In order for both versions to function
you have to uninstall the old runtime and crystal install the new ones and
then put the old ones back on. I built a cd that ran a batch file that
basically took care of everything and walked it around to each machine and
ran it. This was kinda nice because when we were ready to make the actual
upgrade I just took care of the server and then the clients updated and
worked fine.

As stated by others it does fix a lot of issues you have with 305K but it
does cause you some other problems.

We have done some pretty heavy customization throughout vantage and the
upgrade was nice to us in that respect. We just had to re-enable the BPMs
that the upgrade called incompatible. We test them all during our test
phase.

As far as performing the actual upgrade the instructions are sketchy in
places and miss some key steps. For example I don't know if this happens to
everyone but I had to drop the server off the domain for the upgrade to 400
to work never knew why but that is just what it took. I spent 3 hours on the
phone with epicor to figure that out. I still have my notes, I'll gladly
pull them out and dust them off for you if you hit me up off group.
