Diba is currently running 9.04.507A SQL, and I've started the testing of 9.05.702. I'll put up results of testing when I get something worth sharing.
Current infrastructure is a Dell T900, 64G RAM, both Epicor and SQL Server 2005 sharing a 1T RAID10 array (different virtual drives). Performance is meh, but not bad enough to shake loose the money to improve it in this upgrade cycle. SQL Database is about 40G.
I installed the same stuff on my test server so I could go through the entire process, so far with quite encouraging results.
Upgrading the SQL Server 2005 to SQL Server 2008 was painless. In the real world, I'll do that on my current 9.04 system before upgrading Epicor.
Had to run Conversion Program 9880, took about half an hour.
Installing OpenEdge 10.2A, SP3, HF23, and Epicor 9.05.702 was completely straightforward and by the book (just remember to install OpenEdge in its own folder off the root... DO NOT take the default which puts it in the Program Files folder!) All these together took about an hour and a half.
Schema Change took about 2-1/2 hours, no problems.
Admin Tools - Database Conversions took about 3-1/2 hours, no problems.
BPM Directive Update - about 15 min, no problems.
Customizations > Verify All - about 10 minutes, no problems, but some did not verify (more later).
My "test plan" consists of:
1. Test all Customizations (from Customization Maintenance)
2. Test all BAQs and BAQ Reports
3. Test all Customized reports
4. Test all Dashboards
5. Test major functionality (quote-to-cash)
6. Invite power users to come play with me and more fully test their particular areas.
The goal is to have it all tested by mid-summer, with a go-live of mid-August. I can only devote probably half to three-quarters of my time to testing, I'll be at Insights for a week, and I have a week and a half of vacation in June, so it may be tight....
Today I finished Item #1. Of the 59 customizations, 28 updated flawlessly; 13 needed major fixing ("major" meaning more than an hour or so, usually due to significant differences in screen layouts but see below for Labor Entry); 6 needed minor fixing (again mostly screen related, but just moving fields around rather than having to recreate them); 10 are not being used and have now been deleted from 9.04; and 2 are being used on 9.04 but can be deleted after the upgrade (major fixes made them no longer necessary).
For those of you NOT already on 9.05, there is a SIGNIFICANT change in the Labor Entry program (I don't know about MES, we don't use that functionality). It's now called Time and Expense Entry, and any customizations you have there will need to be completely re-written. Thankfully, we only have a couple of little things there and it only took about half a day.
