Upgrade 10.1.400 to 10.2.400 Plan

I’m trying to finalize a plan to upgrade Epicor 10.1.400.19 to 10.2.400 and wanted some feedback.

Our current server hardware has 2 VMs for the SQL and Epicor App Server. We also run a live and pilot database on the same server.

  • I have an old server I am going to use to host the test environment and set it up the same way with 2 VMs.

  • I will then install a fresh copy of SQL and Epicor 10.1.400.19 onto the new VMs and then restore my live database to the test environment.

  • After I verify that my data is good I will perform backup the test environment so I can later practice the steps to upgrade multiple times.

  • Last I will run quote to cash testing.

a question I do have is should I install the client to both on my users computer to test or should I setup separate test computers for the client? I believe if I don’t every time they switch from the live to the test environment it will upgrade/downgrade client files.

Does this all seem reasonable, overkill or is there a better way?

Thanks in advance.

You can run multiple versions on the same computer. The icon to launch will be pointed to a different server, and they will run fine along side each other.

Hi Rich, you can install both clients on the same computer, but in order to avoid the upgrade everytime you change versions, is that you install each client on a separate folder, ie. you will have a folder for Epicor101400, and other for Epicor102400, that way you can log into each session without upgrading every time, hope this will help
