Stephanie,
Here's a summary of the issue as I've seen so far:
When a user leaves a screen open and Mike P's timeout utility shuts down a
user screen in the middle of an inventory transaction, the transaction may
go through without updating the onhandqty. Inaccurate onhandqty's will
contribute to records in the pre-dated stock status report. There are no
other consistently reproducible scenarios that I'm aware of where an
inventory transaction will occur without updating the OnHandQty, though
other possible scenarios are being looked into.
However, there are other scenarios besides inaccurate onhandqty's that
create records in the pre-dated stock status report. The one we dealt with
has to do with PUR-INS transactions that are marked with the InventoryTrans
set to true. It appears that the stock status report incorrectly processes
these records when determining stock quantities for a previous date.
However, inventory integrity is not affected by this issue, just past
visibility. This issue is going to be fixed in the next 5.2 patch, and is
rather minor in my opinion.
Having non-nettable bins will also produce records on the pre-dated stock
status report.
There are other possible scenarios that Troy, Patrick, myself and others are
looking into with the full cooperation of Epicor. However, as of yet, I
haven't seen anything to be truly worried about except the time-out bug.
The time-out bug will be eliminated when Sonoma hits, because business logic
will be executed on an always-on server.
However, it would be wise to run Troy's OnHandQty audit report if you use
crystal/odbc to see if your on hand quantities reconcile with transactions
to date. For non-ODBC users, I am working on a 4GL version of the report
which I will release when it's ready.
Inventory issues are not to be taken lightly, and Epicor seems to be doing
everything in their power to see that issues get tracked down and resolved.
If we can give them reproducible case scenarios, they should have a fix in
no time.
Hope this sheds some light,

Is the problem in the Stock Status report or in the qties on hand. We do a
physical inventory twice a year and last aug we were within $400 but if I
run the report with the early date we have 4 pages of inventorable items.
