It’s been a different outcome for each different customer I have worked with.
Most of the time, anyone pre-8.0 has usually been off maintenance so long that it is cheaper to re-buy than to pay back maintenance.
In terms of the move from 5.2, 6.0, 6.1, it has really varied quite a bit. Some customers can upgrade with very few problems, some it is a project beyond comprehension so they skip that and just treat it like a whole new implementation.
Either way, I would recommend getting the DMT, it will make either process very simple.
Also, I would suggest upgrading your existing DB at least once as a test to evaluate which method might be best for you, you should be able to do it in house by requesting all the discs from Epicor, but there are also third parties outside of Epicor who can run the upgrade for you as well.

Subject: [Vantage] Updating from Vantage 6.0
We are currently on Vantage 6.0. I have been asked to calculate the cost of renewing all maintenance licenses and updating to the current version of Vantage. My experience is it is cheaper and more efficient to ignore the updating and instead jump to the latest version as a systems conversion.
Does anyone have another opinion? Experience with using updates to go from an outdated system to current?
