We are new to Epicor and have started discussions on unit of measure setup. In our current system when ordering from McMaster we run into the issue of ordering a pack of 10 as one line item on a PO then converting the “pack of 10” to each’s for inventory and finance. To add to the problem if we only needed 7 of the 10, we end up throwing out the 3 not needed for the job because we can’t inventory them. What would be the best solution using Epicor to order “pack” quantity, receive the pack qty (10, 20, 25, 200) as each’s so the required amount can go to the job/s, the rest to inventory and help finance close the loop when there is only a qty of 1 on the PO? Thanks!
Epicor Allows for different units of measure within a class. Say for Count UOM Class you have each, case, pallet, etc. Each is obviously 1 but you can define pack, case, pallet, etc. to be part specific. Thus one case of hex head cap screws contains 1000 each units, defined at the part level. At the part level you also have three different units of measure Inventory, Sales, and Purchasing. You can set inventory to each and purchasing to case. You can also use lot size multiple to ensure you always order by the pack, case, pallet.
Robert,
You can set the Inventory Unit of Measure for your part to ‘Each’, and the Purchasing Unit of Measure to ‘Pack of 10’ for example. Order it on the PO as 1 Pack of 10, and it can be received into your inventory as 10 Each. Issue 7 to your job and Epicor knows you have 3 left in inventory.
Purchasing has the option to change the Unit of Measure on the PO, so if they can buy it in larger quantities, etc, they can make that decision at the time of entering the PO.
As David said, you will need to set up these Units of Measure in your system and set up their conversions in the Unit of Measure Class maintenance. 1 Pack of 10 = 10 Each, 1 Pack of 50 = 50 Each, etc.
Thanks for the feedback, for our testing db we did setup a Class for packs. We also had our meeting to review advanced UOM. We have a lot of learning to do, between what we could and couldn’t do in our old system and Epicor, glad to have the help!
