Unable to view Vantage help files

Hi Butch,

Is the file you uploaded in epicweb.epicor.com? I can't find it. May be
I'm going to the wrong place. Could you tell me in more detail where to get
the file?

Thank you very much.

I just uploaded a file to the Vantage group misc that will fix the problem.
Download the file and execute the file with the following
command:

regedit.exe /s {path}\vantage_help.reg

Dan,

I ran into a similar problem with help files when I was playing with my
ActiveX settings in Internet Explorer. Unfortunately, I don't remember
specifics as it happened some time ago. Maybe this will help with your
situation and get you going in some sort of direction or place to start

You guys got my curiosity up and discovered I can't read help either. It is
definitely due to the MS patch.

The error says it can't find the server or dns error.

I found the culprits on our 2000 TS and uninstalled them - now we are
able to get the help options. Now, I also have an XP workstation that
can't suddenly get to the Internet but has no recent updates on it. It's
always something. Meanwhile other work drops further behind.

I uninstalled the latest HTML security hotfix (MS05-026)from user
workstations. The hotfix was installed as KB896358. I forwarded a call
to Epicor, asking if they were going to release a patch to allow the use
of help files for those wishing to install the Microsoft Security
Update. Will see what transpires!

We just got Vantage 6.1 running last night and found this same
problem. Per the instructions listed below, removing MS05-026
(896358) does fix the help files. The problem is, it opens a known
security hole. I would call Vantage tech support and ask if they know
of a workaround but they are closed until next week (4th of July
holiday). Has anybody successfully worked around this problem, while
leaving the patch installed? There is an article on MS website
dealing with this very issue, but it deals with a dialogue box that
does not appear when in the help file.

Thanks,

Bruce Brannan

We just got Vantage 6.1 running last night and found this same
problem. Per the instructions listed below, removing MS05-026
(896358) does fix the help files. The problem is, it opens a known
security hole. I would call Vantage tech support and ask if they know
of a workaround but they are closed until next week (4th of July
holiday). Has anybody successfully worked around this problem, while
leaving the patch installed? There is an article on MS website
dealing with this very issue, but it deals with a dialogue box that
does not appear when in the help file.

Thanks,

Bruce Brannan

Oh yeah, you'll have to reboot before the changes will take effect.
