Unable to update contact from Order Header

Good Luck!

My purchasing manager and I found a bug in the purchasing module of 5.1. Support acknowledged it was a bug, but I was told they did not intend to fix it in the 5.1 version. If I wanted the fix I needed to upgrade.

Subject: [Vantage] Unable to update contact from Order Header

I try not to wear out my welcome with some of my "drum up support for"
issues, but this is one of them.

There is a bug in order entry. I need that bug fixed yesterday!

When you enter an order and choose a purchasing contact from the
company, if you double click on the contact to update them (add an email
address for example) and click ok to save your changes, when you try to
click ok to the header you get the error "**No Customer record is
available. (91)". The workaround that Epicor has given is to update the
contact via customer maintenance instead.

Epicor has been aware of this since 6.00 patch 512 at least.

I called support and asked that this issue be escalated, but frankly
with a workaround available it was indicated that this might be a little
easier for development to overlook this.

We are turning on automatic shipment notification via email from Vantage
as of the 19th. The workaround would work if we did not deal with
hundreds of orders (most with unique customers or contacts) per day, but
with our volume, this is just not a reasonable option.

If anyone else out there finds this more than mildly frustrating, please
latch on and let Epicor know that it's important. The details are
below, including apparently the logic that would be needed to fix the
problem.

I thank anyone who might help me out in getting this addressed sooner
than later.

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
**No Customer record is available. (91)" when updating a contact from
order entry.

Program: om/ome10-hd.w

Duplicated in Mntech 6.00.512

1. Order Management-->General Ops-->Order Entry.

2. Use the browser to select any sales order, or add a new order.

3. In the order header, select a contact under the Sold To section, Attn
field.

4. Double-click on the Attn field to get into the Contact Maintenance
screen (xa/xam20-cm.w).

5. Change anything on the contact. Click OK. Click OK on the order
header screen. Error occurs: **No Customer record is available. (91)

RESPONSE FROM DEVELOPMENT:

SCR 7114

When 6.00 SCR 5913 added a check to Sales Order Entry to see if a
customer allowed duplicate PO numbers, it tried to use the customer
record without making sure that it was available. To avoid the error,
the code needs to find the customer record before using it.

As of 6.00, the following programs need this fix:

om/ome10-hd.w -- Vantage Sales Order Header Maintenance
om/ome10-hd-vs.w -- Vista Sales Order Header Maintenance
om/ome10-qo.w -- Quick Order Entry

WORKAROUND: Update the contact from the Customer master file instead of
from the order.

Did you consider contacting custom programming to see what they would charge to correct this?

Just my .02 because we are in the dark ages (3.x), and I have been told
sometimes I let my principle get in the way of my principle but to pay
custom programming to fix a bug would be hard for me. Lets keep this idea
low key for Epicor will have found a huge cash cow. Granted if it is too
aggravating it may be worth it but ouch.

Shutting up now.

Jim -

If it's only a penny for your thoughts and everyone puts their two
cents in, where are the accountants putting the other pennies?

I should stop thinking today!
